I bought a vintage tablecloth and it was labeled crochet. It think the label is wrong and the cloth is tatting. Can anyone help me with this I d? thanks in advance.

Definitely not tatting. Maybe some kind of needle lace, or weaving? I have a blouse from Mexico that looks crocheted at first glance, but when you look closer it's really threads woven around spokes of thread to make floweres.

I agree with msmeow. Not tatting as I know it. But definitely not crochet, either.

Might it be knitted?

Can you post links to bigger pictures?

IMHO it looks like crochet to me, the larger mesh like parts look like a stitch called "lover's knot" and the more solid parts look like double crochet. You can search lover's knot on the net for pix and tutorial (not an easy stitch to learn at first I might add, but when you have a eureka moment learning, then it's very easy). Oh, I'm probably pushing it a bit, but your second pic., on the bottom left side might be bruges lace (also can find info about bruges lace online). HTH. Center flower/star motif is a fairly common crochet "square" beginning.

I BELIEVE THAT THE ARTICLE IN THE PICTURE IS CHROCHET. IT DEFINITELY ISN'T TATTING . EMILYr

It looks like crochet stitches to me too, I made a dusting cloth and a bed jacket with very similar stitches that are created by stretching the yarn over you finger(s) or an object, trying to approximate the same size stretch each time.
