jacket/shrug using large round doilie w/sleeves?

Does anyone have a pattern link that I can adapt using worsted weight for this design that is still in my head? I want to crochet a 30 inch round that has sleeves. Where to begin? THe top of the circle will fold back to create a shawl collar. Can you picture it?

There are several free patterns in the public domain that sound like they would be adaptable to what you want to do. I'll see if I can locate the links for you. One, I believe, is on Caron's site.
