Hi all. I have been looking everywhere and I can't seem to find a pattern for a Mantle Scarf. If any of you have one you would be willing to share I would gladly pay you for it. Thanks in advance.

I assume you want thread crochet. What measurements are you looking for? Do you want it to be entirely crochet, or do you want a white linen scarf trimmed with a thread crochet border???? If you want the latter, it would be easy to just use any border pattern that you would like to use. Is a filet pattern a possibility?

Thanks for reply. Yes I was thinking thread crochet. The mantle measures 79.5 inches wide and 11.5 inches deep. I hadn't thought of the linen scarf but that would work if I can't find a pattern for the whole thing done in crochet. Any pattern is a possibility. I know I use to have one that used pinecone pattern but that was years ago. I can't find it anywhere. *sigh*

I will check my stash and get back to you. Off to a meeting right now.

Ok, I have checked my patterns, and I do not have a mantle scarf per se. I do have a few patterns that could be adapted.

First of all, do you want the scarf to hang over the front edge of the mantle? Or do you want it to be 11 inches or less wide?

I found a couple of oval or rectangular place mats, table runners, arm chair head area covers, and tray doilies that could be elongated. I also found several quite old thread crochet table cloth patterns that are made from a repeated motif. With these, you could make two rows or so of the motifs and then put the edging on it to make it into a mantle scarf.

Do you already have some motif type cloth patterns that you could use? Are you looking for rather open and lacey look or more solid coverage?

Thank you so much for your replies and all the effort. I do want it to hang over and be lacey looking. The idea you have of using the motifs and adding edging is really quite good. In fact the more I think on it the better I like it. I have several patterns that might work for it. Patterns I can usually follow. Being creative on my own seems to escape me. LOL I was wanting to make this for a friend for Christmas. Using your idea would actually make it more unique and hopefully interesting. I think I'll try that. Thank you again so very much. I'll post a picture when I finish. But I crochet slow and am working on another project at the moment.

Thanks again
Charmaine

I too am interested in a Mantle Scarf to Crochet. Charmaine could you send me a pattern? Even if it takes a couple parts (i.e. shelf pattern then seperate edge pattern.) I am looking for something lacy too.
Thank you.

RE: Mantle Scarf Crochet Pattern

I finally found a pattern on the net. It is a very nice one. Says its expert but I haven't had a problem with it and don't consider myself an expert. In fact far from it. The hardest part for me was the 150 some chains to start it. I kept losing count lol.

Anyway I got this pattern from Crochet Memories She has three ways of sending it to you, your choice. I chose e-mail and received it very promptly. The cost was $2.55 (usd) and she does paypal. She has other payment methods as well, I just like paypal. Don't have to hand out my credit card numbers all over the net to do buisness online. She also sent me follow up emails to make sure that I got the patterns I ordered and that I had no problem saving them and printing them out.

I do still plan on making one that I kinda come up with myself. But know myself well enough to know if I did it for this gift it would be done in time for Christmas 2007. (Did I mention my middle name is procrastinate?) This one I should have done today except for the blocking and shaping. I'll post pic when it is complete.
(hope I get this url up right for Crochet memories. If I don't I'll fix it.)

Charmaine

Here is a link that might be useful: Crochet Memories, mantle scarf page
