I am knitting in stockinette stitch. How do I fix a dropped stitch when it is an M1 stitch?

RE: fixing dropped M1 stitch

I just pick up the bit of yarn that had been the M1 and twist it and put it back on the needle. If it is several rows down, I don't know if you can pick it up and make it work, but you put the twisted yarn onto a crochet hook and pick up a strand from the row above it and loop it through the stitch and repeat for each row.
