Doesn't her pattern give the required # of st to the inch, etc? I hate to knit a swatch, but I knit very loosely, so it's a must for me....I generally use much smaller needles to achieve the desired size, and even then mine always end up somewhat 'generous'!

Oh, be assured. I am using the correct knitting gauge. The projects in this book are still huge when you follow her directions.

Can you drop down a size or are you already making the smallest size? I have to do this sometimes, and then make the body and sleeves longer as needed.

I am making a medium now instead of the large, and making it as long as the large size. I think I could have made the small as it is still so wide!
