| I tried posting this message yesterday but when I looked for an answer today I could not find the message. If it gets posted twice - I am sorry.
I have crocheted a baby blanket and need to know how to block it. It is out of soft baby yarn and sags badly in the middle. Will blocking help? and how do I block? Thanks for any info. |

| I answered this on the 17th, but here is a copy and paste of my answer: Some things can't be fixed by blocking, but many can. You should completely wet the blanket, then lay it on a large towel (or another blanket if a towel isn't large enough). Then roll the towel and baby blanket up together. Press down all over the towel to remove as much moisture as you can, then lay the blanket on top of another dry towel and stretch the blanket to the proportions your want and leave it to dry. If, after the first washing, it reverts to the saggy baggy middle, you may want to consider steam blocking the blanket. If there aren't any large textured stitches, like popcorn, you can spray a section of the blanket, then lay a towel over that section and use your steam iron to set it. Be very careful not to actually touch the blanket with the iron. Repeat with more sections of the blanket. This will "kill" the piece. Once you have set it this way, it will retain that shape. |

| What kind of yarn did you use? That may impact how you want to block it and how much blocking will help it. There was a good article on knitty... |

| Thanks for the replys. The blanket is made from a soft baby yarn and the edges sag when I hold it up. Also the bottom seems to ruffle - maybe too many stitches. I have just finished it and plan to wet ti and lay flat today. Thanks again. |

| You are responding to an old, old, 4 year old message. If you post a new message, you can check off the box that will notify you by e-mail if someone has answered your question. As luck would have it, Donna Loomis has posted here in recent times, so you could check her page for an address and probably hit paydirt. She is a very helpful lady. -Babka |
