Knitting Stitches

I am knitting a sweater from an old Paton & Baldwins book published in 1987.
Name of book is Forever Aran. I am knitting the Romantic Mood pattern.
I am in the area of neck shape and the
pattern is a ribbing pattern (P2, K2). Here are some of the instructions.
Row 1 - Pattern across 45 sts. TURN. Leave remaining std in spare needle.
I have done this.
Row 2 - Yfwd. Sl 2P. Pattern to end of row.
Row 3 - Pattern across 43 sts, Yfwd. Sl 1P. TURN.
Row 4 - Yfwd. Sl 3P. Pattern to end of row.
My questions are - how do you Yfwd as a first st and what do I do with Sl. 1P, Sl 2P or Sl 3P?
Any help I can get on this matter is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Cippy
