What Kind of Yarn For Keepsake Baby Afghan?

| What would be your favorite brand and type of yarn for baby afghans that may not be given to the baby for several years?

| I guess one question is how many years? I've used the Bernat Baby Coordinates and Softee Baby but never saved them longer than 2 years before giving them as a gift. Don't know what yarn my mom used to use but I have the white christening blanket from my son (he's 31) that still looks great. I know it was a simple white sport weight; don't know the brand. Blankets I gave years ago are now being used for their children and I didn't use anything special back then (over 25-30 years) mostly Red Heart which would now be Super Saver or Sport. So I suggest whatever you want but put the finished project in a zip lock bag. Of course with the label so washing directions are not forgotten. |

| I like Caron Simply Soft. Any acrylic yarn will last a long time. |

| Thank you for your replies. As for "how many years?" I'm thinking something that could be passed down if they wanted to. I just didn't know if there was a certain yarn or yarn fabric that held up better than others. Thank you! |

| Any acrylic is almost indestructible but most may not be fire-retardant if that's a concern. If wool allergies are not a problem, I'd use a soft superwash merino like Dale. If it is, I've used Blue Sky's organic cotton, which seems to please contemporary parents. I usually shop the sales and stash these staples. |

| I like the caron simply soft also. When washed it is so soft. |
