I found an auction on ebay for a Wee Baby Irish Chain afghan. It looks very similar to a stitch called Brick Stitch/Crazy Stitch. It is sometimes done on the diagonal and sometimes straight. I am adding a link for the pattern. Does it look something like this?

Here is a link that might be useful: Brick/Crazy stitch
