trying to copy crochet shawl in magazine, help?

I saw a short shawl that I want to copy... it is a series of spider-shaped crocheted pieces that are made first then later attached not to each other, but to a network of connecting chains. The final step is applique crochet flowers, one over each spider shape. I havent seen any patterns anywhere for this style of crochet. Please ID the correct terminology for me so I can do a search. Also, please direct me to instructions. Thank you.

I'm having trouble visualizing exactly what you're describing. Can you tell us exactly what magazine you saw this in?
