Just talked to son in NYC. He told me he saw an online description of a CSA wool - sheep farm in the northeast. So he bought one share. He says he will qualify to receive a little of their product, and isn't sure if it is spun wool or the rovings. Sounds interesting. I have never heard of a cooperative with sheep, but he likes supporting a nice business such as this one. Will share his report of the product when he gets it.

I'm curious as to what CSA means....I've never heard the term CSA wool, the only thing I can think of is the Confederate States of America, and I know that sure isn't right!

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture - there are some local farms by me who sell "shares" - you get weekly organic produce which has been excellent. Never heard about it for a sheep farm but I guess the concept could work for many areas. Since I live just north of NYC, I probably should check this out.

If he gets his wool in spun yarn, that's quite a deal. In my experience, those who raise sheep don't necessarily spin their wool into yarn...if he 'gets' his wool in roving, will he spin it?

Yes, he plans to use whatever he gets. I taught him to knit and crochet last year when he was home. He often goes with fellow students to a knitting coffee shop of a Friday afternoon.
