tatted booties

I have never posted on this forum before, hang out in the gardening, and other home forums mostly.
My MIL just sent us a pair of tatted booties that my DHs Grandmother made for him when he was a baby. They were tatted in 1949 and are beautiful and look to be in perfect condition. My guess is that they have been put away for a very long time. We are expecting our first grandchild, a girl, in July and MIL thought it might be a nice gift for the grandbaby. I would love to give them to my son and DIL but I want to make sure they won't fall apart when exposed to the air. Am I worrying over nothing? How long does the thread used in tatting last?
