using up scraps of sock yarn

I have decided that scraps of sock yarn make good baby booties for little boys with their deep colors like Magic Stripe yarn. I only use the kind of yarn that a mother could wash and dry in the laundry machines. Usually, I use a baby sock pattern for newborns and add a row of eyelets at the base of the sock ribbing before finishing the foot of the sock. I make a 16 - 18 inch long chain and weave it through the eyelet for ties. Chained ties stay put much better than baby ribbon. Usually I crochet 9 inches of chain, make the next chain with the hook going through the center eyelet stitch at the back of the booties, and then I finish the tie. That way the ties will not get separated from the booties.
