I would like to make a felted hat for a man, and I would like it to have a loose fitting flat crown. I don't just want a beanie type fit.

Has anyone seen a pattern like this?

I guess the crown would need to have more increases to it so it would puff out just a bit. I don't want it coming to a point, but do want it to look like it has been a little gathered together on top. Am I making sense?

It can be crochet or knit.

I currently crochet women's hats with a brim and felt them. But I would like to make a hat for men that does not have a brim, but just can be turned up. Or would that make it way too thick around the head? I guess I want something kind of like a cossack hat.

any ideas anyone?
