weaving ribbon into baby blanket

Hi

I just finished a very simple garter stitch baby blanket with an edging made by yarn overs at the beginning of each row. I'd like to weave a ribbon through the edging to make it a little fancier. I know nothing about ribbon, whether it's washable, colorfast, etc. Does anyone know? Should I stitch it down as I weave it? Thanks!

I would wash the ribbon before using.
