I love to use an i-cord finish for necklines or the button edge, neck, and bottom of cardigans. I usually cast on 3 or 4 extra stitches after picking up the stitches around the edge of the sweater. The last of the newly cast on stitches is knit together with the first sweater stitch through the back loops of the two stitches. Then just return the 3 or 4 stitches on the right needle to the left needle and repeat until you have knit up all the edge stitches. It is a slow process, but it makes such a nicely finished edge. When turning a corner, knit only the cast on stitches once or twice without knitting two together with a sweater edge stitch.

You can also make icord on circular needles by slipping the stitches back onto the left needle and beginning again. Since that's how I learned I also do it on double pointed needles.

Soyamiso, sorry, but I just saw this message. I don't have any pictures. But I use this finish quite frequently. It gives a very professional look. I usually do it with 3 cast on stitches.
