Midnight tonight . . .

Marks one year since I got that call from my doctor telling me I had to go to the ER immediately, and I made that "midnight ride" to the ER.

We had snow and ice that day; the roads had not been cleared. I live alone and pushing the numbers on the phone made me feel more alone than ever. Fortunately, I am only about three miles from the Rescue Crew and they were here very quickly.

I've posted "the rest of the story" here as it progressed. Some of the journey has been physically and emotionally tiring, but I am in better health now than I have been in a long time, and thankful for all those doctors, nurses, my family, and the KTers who encouraged and prayed for me along the way and helped to make it so.

Sue, peace to you on this 'anniversary'. I wish you nothing but good health and happiness - feel free to begin your own personal New Year just a little earlier than the rest of us. I hope you banged some pot lids together or something at midnight, ring out the old year, bring on the new and every nice thing it will bring you.

Angelique, sleeping bags are not overkill, just overworked, LOL! As long as you remove them at about 9:00 am The whole nine yard's frosted over, I mean mine yards front and back. 28 deg F in the air (my trusty thermometer) and for the sake of sanity, the surface of the lawn grass is 23 deg F (I know, should have used IR thermometer for surfaces). Will be removing the camping tarps that I hurriedly placed over my bananas, half of my pluot, and three and 2/3 (not enough to cover the 4th one) citrus trees late last night. Was sad it was not so breezy, so the frost was widespread, was very glad it was not so breezy so the tarps stayed put. Yehehay! The lowest to come are 34 deg F, sometime during the weekend. I hope this early morning was the worst, a warming trend is in the forecast by NWS.

Brugmansias holding their leaves here in Brea. I hid the about-to-bloom orchid behind the furniture and up against the house. Hope it will survive and bloom. I am thinking about bringing it inside, but have kitties so don't want them chewing on it.

Tumbled glass. But I agree with localeater -- this may not be a good plan. Pennywise-pound foolish and all that. There are sales all the time; they come and go and you will miss out on some better deals. But countertops are something you'll live with a really, really long time and there's value to winding up with just what you want and that fits well with everything else. If it costs you an extra $100 or whatever to be far closer to what you want, it's worth it maybe (I shouldn't presume about anyone's finances of course -- these are just place-holder dollar figures). What I'm counseling would be: let it go. Decide this later. You're a long way from there yet, so much could happen -- if you order countertop now and you change your design, then what? I don't think you should pull the trigger on this until you're further down the pike.

Glenda, I truly have been blessed

Morz8, No pot lid banging, wouldn't want to wake my neighbors, and I'm looking forward to 2015 being a much better year.

Susanif, Yes, I think there is truth in that saying I still have problems, but I'm much stronger now than I was before.

Georgysmom, Ah, that ride! I showed that picture to my PC doctor and she loved it and asked me to share it. I showed it to a couple of my other doctors and soon it was well known around the hospital. My DGD put it on her FB as "Motorcycle Mamaw!."

I hope my postings about my situation will inspire others who have similar health problems, or any serous health problems, to get them checked out by good professionals. One of mine said: "We can't CURE anything. We CAN help to make it better." Good thing to remember.
