Any ideas for a plant my cat won't eat?
Comments (54)Plants my cat *loves:* * Dracaena marginata. Maybe because it looks like pet grass? Got it because I thought it might be tall enough to be out of her reach, but she'll stand on the planter and nibble on it! * Peace lilies. She'll nibble on whole leaves! She's eaten so much of it in the 6 months or so that I've had it, it's now smaller than when I bought it :( Plants she hasn't touched yet: * Pachira Aquatica (I've had it for a few weeks/month now). I got a taller version (waist/stomach height), but some of its leaves are still low enough that she can reach, especially with her planter-standing method. However, so far I haven't seen any nibbles! Fingers crossed that she doesn't grow accustomed to its scent or something of the sort and becomes more curious! * Snake plant. I didn't realize this plant was toxic for cats, but thankfully it's always been housed in areas she can't frequent -- in a hard-to-reach spot of a kitchen counter/island (I had it surrounded by cookbooks and my coffee maker) or its current spot at the top of a bookshelf. They don't require loads of light, so it's easier to position these plants somewhere you can enjoy, but your cat can't. * Succulents. I've kept a couple in window sills year-round and she hasn't touched them. Although I don't recommend keeping succulents indoors unless you have super bright Southern sunlight or grow lights. I had an Echeveria Green Goddess that is etiolated slightly from my mostly Southern, slightly Eastern window. I think I'll stick with sedums/Graptopetalum Paraguayense (which I think still look attractive with their sliiiiight legginess) for indoors year-round....See MoreStray cat won't leave
Comments (5)I have such mixed feelings. I don't wish any animal harm.....except maybe ticks, mosquitoes, raccoons.....etc.,......haha It's probably too much to hope for, but it might be gone.......but I doubt it. I live out in the country. It was sleeping in our garden-way cart on the porch yesterday (so cute.....) It saw me looking through the window and started meowing, so I closed the drapes. Later, I opened them, just in time to see something chasing something at a high rate of speed. Not sure who was chasing whom.........but I didn't see her again until the evening, down by the road. Hopefully, she's found her way to someone else's house. My son lives about 90 miles from here and he's offered to take it to a no-kill shelter. I hate removing it from it's environment.........but all my insecurities would probably vanish if I saw it killing a bird.......or a chipmunk, etc. There are enough predators out there, without adding stray cats. Thanks for your support!...See MoreSick Cat. Won't eat after 1 week.
Comments (17)I just read the thread... I can't tell you how sorry I am for you, and your cat, much too young to die this way! You must be emotionally and physically drained, and you will always wonder why he passed away so fast... Not knowing the "why(s)", and erasing the last 2 weeks of suffering are always the hardest to deal with. Wish I had an answer for you. You have done all you could for him, and hopefully, the better days will overpower the sad ones. Thinking of you, Anne-Marie...See MoreCat Won't Drink Water(Will Eat though)
Comments (9)You really need to find a vet you're willing to work with. The other symptoms concern me and she needs more tests run. I think the pedialyte is just giving her a boost, yet she's slowly getting worse. Did the previous vet not comment on her lungs or did he even give her a thorough physical? Do you have a 'cat only' clinic in your area? If not, ask friends or call the SPCA for vet references. I know how frustrating some vets can be.....I went to one that never touched my cat and would point at her with a pen. Needless to say, I never went back to him! But, there are good ones out there........so keep searching....See MoreGranlan_TX
