Christmas tree

A friend and I decorated my sister's tree this
past weekend. She uses clear lights, mostly blue decorations with some white, and silver garland. She loves Christmas more than anyone I know so we do this as soon after Thanksgiving as possible.

well, by removing some lights, you could actually be making the others brighter. i have a few strands that if you remove more than 1-2 lights, the strand gets real bright! light strands are series-parallel circuits that are setup so that each bulb basically gets 1.5 to2.5 volts across it, depending on the exact setup of the strand. by removing bulbs, you change the ciruit resistance, and up the voltage to each bulb. as this happens, the bulb gets brighter and gives off more heat. remove enough and the circuit is broken completely on most stradns and you get no light. also, you say unscrewing the bulbs, so i take it this is not the mini lights but the older 4 or 9 watt screw in bulbs. they will produce much more heat than the smaller bulbs. as configured from the manufacturer, the bulbs should be safe. of course we all know that chinese crap may not be, but if the bulbs run cooler with all bulbs in, then i would leave it alone.

Oh, Christmas Tree is one of my favorites, too.... My mother sang it in German (she was of German descent from Northern Ontario, Canada, and didn't speak English until she went to school), and that's how I always remember it - auf Deutsch. When I was in 5th grade our small class was a human Christmas Tree for the school Christmas program and we sang O Tannebaum. Being the smallest girl in the class, I was the angel on the top of the bleachers that formed the "tree", and the kids all held pine boughs. I was so tiny I needed a wooden box to stand on to be seen, and the teacher was so afraid I would fall off. I was so proud because I already knew all the words to the song (LOL)! Putting the trunk on an angle wouldn't change the crotch angle. The weight of the canopy is less than the stress wind would cause. Get a cfl and put it on the stem where you want growth. Force it to bud out. Make the tree do what you want it to. Start now and get the buds to break before spring so by next fall you will have a mostly balanced tree. Also don't let any more growth happen on the current canopy. Rub off all new branches as they grow. Only let the tree grow from the bare stem.

I bought a new one this year at Walgreen's. It is pre-lit with multi colored lights. I always dreaded putting lights on trees.

I have that same Santa also!! I have a collection of about 8 Santas.

You motivated me also to put my tree up. Fingers crossed it lights up....I bought it in July from Home Depot as their deal of the day. (It was originally $219. and I got it for $41. with free shipping.) Then stored it without testing it first.

It's a 9 ft tree with 850 lights! The UPS guy was hilarious when he delivered it the first week of July. It was a hundred degrees and the humidity was almost as high, he delivers this huge, heavy box. He said to DH "Really? Really?! I'm delivering a Christmas tree right now?" lol

Please show us your trees when you get them up. I put my own up yesterday and decorated out side for the first time in years so I am happy.

Looks beautiful! I have two cats. The younger cat knocks the tree down, fully. He frustrates me. I love to decorate for the seasons, to put me in the mood. Not only that I have many handmade ornaments. Almost all of them are from ornament swaps and I can't put them out :( Bad cat

This is my artificial tree in my living room. Sometime closer to Christmas I will put up a real tree in my back sun room. Rob, I am sorry your kitties won't let you have a tree.
