We just celebrated in a Chinese restaurant with my family. Starting a new tradition that is easier for us than cooking a big turkey with all the trimmings. This way we all get to relax and enjoy each other.

Oh just like on A Christmas Story! Which is on right now by the way. I'd do it.

No, not all that fond of Chinese food, maybe once a year some fried rice and some kind of sweet chicken.

A rather insensitive comment. Someone once said that when you hear someone speaking English with an accent, it's important to remember that that person likely speaks at least one more language than you do.

So you know, the letter "L" is rather common in Chinese and is easily pronounced by those whose mother tongue is Chinese. The people who have trouble with "L" are Japanese.

I would venture to guess that Snidely never saw A Christmas Story. I'm taping it right nowâ¦DS's favorite movie. I bought him "the" lamp this year as a joke. Can't wait for him to open it.

Well, considering I made us egg rolls last Christmas Eve (frozen) and we both got sick from them and spent Christmas Day sick as dogs, I'd say NO!!! LOL.

We're going to a Chinese restaurant tomorrow!

I wanted Peking duck, but they had already sold out all the pre-orders when I thought to call. I know now to reserve this dish in advance before my February birthday.

I'll still enjoy my low-stress, delicious Christmas dinner.

Our restaurant owners have a great sence of humor; they know the movie and how it brings them more business. They greated my request with a "Sorry; no more Chinese turkey!" a lovely chuckle, and "Merry Christmas!"

And why, Snidely, would the fact that another person has an accent mean I speak only one language? My Romaniam neighbor has a very strong accent, as do most of the Chinese waiters, and yet, I manage two languages. I hope you find some Christmas cheer and perhaps a few polite manners.

I love Peking Duck, we traditionally order it for New Years Eve. I have The Christmas Story on TV today as "background music". My dog Molly and I sat in bed and have watched it twice so far. Let's all drop the squabbling,okay? Peace on earth.

At the risk of keeping this going.....snidely, I honestly don't think Kathy meant ANYTHING by that. That was a line from the movie A Christmas Story.

Watched that movie 2 evenings ago, as my Niece and I do every yr. That scene never fails to put me away. Was talking about the movie with my son last evening at Christmas Eve dinner. Merry Christmas, Peace on Earth and here on the KT.

Not us - we live in TORONTO. The power finally came back on yesterday - just in time for us to brave the roads - without traffic lights to try and get some food. We lost nearly everything since I can't have canned food etc.

heather_on - your roads were clear! It is snowing now - but we had more ice first.

Re Asians and other nationalities I have worked with Jewish people, Asians from every country, people from India etc. etc. and every one of them was the first to say Merry Christmas and anxious to put out their lights, get their trees and start Christmas shopping. Most celebrated and continue to celebrate our Christmas and their own special holidays. Of course my friends assimilated - they did not expect to change Canada to adhere to the practices of their respective countries. And I believe in assimilation. Of course if we moved to certain countries we would be vilified for trying to continue our own traditions. I for one refuse to have a "Holiday Tree".

My beautiful DDIL is 100% Chinese and my 2 of my beautiful grandchildren are 50% Chinese/50% Polish. I say Fa ra ra ra, with love and humor. NOT ever to offend anyone.

Yes, it is rather snowy, but DH will drive, not me. Headed for the Tawas's for dinner soon.
I think we have enough snow for the winter all ready!
