What a great thing to do! Sad to say, but there are so many Americans who do not know our own National Anthem, let alone be able to sing Canada's.

Oops, I meant the Nashville Predators, not the Philly Flyers. Nashville defeated us by an amazing 9 to 2 score that evening, but at least we could hold our heads up for having exhibited very sportsmanlike behaviour, lol!

phoggie, when I was in high school, we learned British history, Canadian history, American history, and some World history (Roman, Greek, Egyptian) as well. Grade 10 was for American history, which covered from Columbus to Nixon. I'm sure the curriculum continued to keep pace, though I graduated in '73, so that ended my formal education in American history. But of course the history of The Star Spangled Banner and the making of the American flag were included in my studies.

I believe my daughter told me that although American History is still offered in high school here, it is no longer a mandatory course for Canadian students. That's a shame, it was one of my favourites!

I've always loved going to Canada on visits. It's beautiful country and classy people. You are right, I would have been very proud too. We could not have done that for you.

Off the subject but the same thing - Our high school was in CIF playoff last Friday against a big team from Los Angeles - we are a little bitty town. It was pouring down! The speakers went out for the national anthem - so the teams and audience sang it beautifully! We had kids from the other local teams in their jackets watching our team beat the big LA team in the rain! This Saturday, we play in San Diego county for the semi finals before going to Sacramento for the finals... This is the furthest any San Luis Obispo county team has been in the playoffs. I'll be glued to the computer and radio... So proud of these boys...

joyful, I think I could survive it if the Leafs ever make the playoffs again, but I'm afraid my heart couldn't take the shock if they ever actually win the Stanley cup again in my lifetime! I guess 'the Mahovlich curse' (when Frank Mahovlich was traded from the Leafs to the Red Wings) is still going strong, lol! Beliveau was an amazing player to watch and will always be remembered with fondness.

Grandma Bonny.......that was an amazing game. So glad Paso won.
And I was very happy the Nipomo Titans won the southern division.

Sad to say, our HS students are not required to take Government, etc anymore......no wonder we are in such a mess.....shezzzzzz! There is a segment on a news show where they ask who pictures or officers...i.e. vice-president ect. and they do not have a clue!...but yet they vote! Sad!

I had posted the video on Facebook the night it happened. We learned more American History in grade school than we did Canadian or British history.
