My ChrIstmas tree this year

I'm getting too old and my back just can't lift the tree anymore. So I found these trees at Target and put out my Annalee Christmas dolls.

Whoa, that's big! I'll he others on a different post.

HI J, I have 3 peach trees. All have fruited in 2-3 years. I did not really amend the soil except for adding some top soil to fill the holes because I did not have enough native soil to put back. In my areas, rocks grow best. Rocks and boulders are everywhere when you dig a hole. I've fertilized the tree a bit in the spring each of the following years. I don't want to fertilize too much. If I were you, I'd get rid of competing weed around each tree and mulch it. Your apple tree looks stunted. A 3 yrs old apple tree should not look like that even in your type of soil. Not sure why, but you may want to consider relocating it. The soil in my yard is also land fill. The trees still grow decently. As for apple fruiting, I have apple trees that have fruited in 2nd and 3rd year on semi-dwarf rootstocks. My Honey Crisp is on an unknown rootstock. It must be at least 6 years old now but still have not fruited. My guess is it's on a standard rootstock which will take much longer. Make sure you have another variety of apple that blooms about the same time to cross pollinate. If there are crab apple trees in your neighborhood, you'd be all set.

Hi greenman62, do you put green grass clippings, wait till dry before put wood chips? What is the reason amend the soil above the grade level not the hole? I heard the tree root will not go beyond the hole that has the amended soil and Also water will pool in the hole since surrounding dirt is clay, right?Would it be the same if amend the soil on hill/bump? I am also unclear about planter box. If I amend the dirt for the planter box, would a tree have shallow root? I am thinking of building a new planter box for a avocado tree. Unfortunately my husband amended all the dirt with compost including the hole. Hope my gold nugget will be ok. I have not transplant the two 1 new year trees yet.

Will my pear trees bear fruit this year

Those are leaf buds - pears bloom before the leaves expand. And if the trees are young and small you won't get a lot of fruit off of them anyway. In fact it would probably be a good idea to snip off any fruits you see starting to form until the trees have sized up well. Instead of having energy that would otherwise go into development of the top go into early in life fruit production.

Just as I finished putting out the Nativity set my cat, Smokey, went up to the Shepherd and rubbed his face all over his head, making sure he marked it with his scent. Then he went back to Joseph and did the same thing. He didn't bother the rest of them nor has he touched them since.

Love your trees. That's the kind I need. I just can't deal with larger trees any more. Your place looks very pretty and quite festive.

Oh I do have a cat and last year was the first time I was able to keep him out of the tree. I got Jacklyn Smith skinny 7" Cashme tree with lights. The branches are so close together he couldn't get in.

I'll post my web page of his first Christmas when he was 6 months old.He had a ball in that tree. It was a much bigger tree He's11 now.
