Since Target is one of my favorite stores , I don't hold them accountable. It's the stinking hackers who make life miserable for everyone. We went online to look at our Discover card and called Visa to look up current charges, and we are okay. I've been to Target at least four times since Black Friday.

I don't blame Target either. I'm tired of the criminals. I hope they get caught.

Yes, I used my debit card on the 10th at Target. Just checked my account and all debits are mine. I may change my pin # tomorrow.

I have never, and will never be able to fathom why some people think it's o.k. to STEAL something that is not theirs. They have to know right from wrong and they purposely choose wrong. smh

We seldom shop at Target but hubby did the Sat. after Thanksgiving and I have been at two different Targets since then.
We called and cancelled our card and will be issued another one within 7 days. Pain in the bu.... but better safe than sorry. From what we were told, you need to get a new card as your number may not be used right away - could be months down the road.

Oh well, we have had credit cards compromised 2 other times in a year. The day after last Christmas, my number was used in NJ and in CA within a few minutes of each other for small amounts, then in Las Vegas for a hotel charge. That time it was flagged and rejected. I immediately got a call from the company about it.

The last time was in a mass recall from BOA - ours hadn't been used but could have been compromised. Now this time with Target.

I went to a shopping center that has a Target store today. That end of the parking lot was half empty. I like Target a lot, but would be hesitant to hand over my card at this point. The same thing happened at TJ Maxx awhile back. Darn hackers, but it is the responsibility of the stores to be sure they are hack-proof, not that easy I am sure.

I don't blame Target. I have a Target Red Card that is a debit card. I get 5% off everything I buy. I check my bank account online daily and all the charges are mine. I do need to go to Target again tomorrow and will check with them about changing the PIN.

Target has fixed the problem, but the repercussions might still happen. One of our local stations said there was no need to get new cards, another one said you could for peace of mind. We're just going to check our account every day. I don't use a debit card or the red card. I should as much as I shop there. I remember it happened at TJ Maxx too, and I shop there every week.

I have a Target red card (debit) and changed the pin. You can do it online at the Target red card site, and it is recommended. Also, note that the news stated that the hackers will now sell the credit card info. on the black market, and so it could take weeks or months until fraudulent charges show up.

Dang. I usually spend cash. I used my bank card four times in the timeframe. Oh well. I did just get a new one, but it looks like I'll have to be without one again! for "5-10" business days. Dang it.

Just a suggesiton! But I wouldn't just get a new PIN, go the extra mile and get a new card. They can set up a false card, then run the card as a credit carrd, never entering the PIN and use the account all the same. Just an opinion.

I almost never shop at Target, so I don't have to worry.

I called my bank this morning and by giving them the last four digits of my card they were able to tell I was one that was compromised. How? I don't know. They said they would eventually be sending out new cards but to keep a good watch on my account. Also they said to always carry a backup means of payment in stores in case my account was suddenly frozen because of strange activity.

I called my bank and got "We are aware of the Target compromise and we will be reissuing new cards to those affected." A recording. But--will my card just suddenly stop working because a new one is on its way? If I happen to be affected? Are those affected automatically sent cards? Hm. We shall see.

When I give the store currency - no problem.

Keeping my receipt helps me rein in my spending (should that appear to be necessary).

I gave my credit card number to a person in the Philippines this week when I could have mailed a check. I was thinking that wasn't too smart of me, but obviously your credit card information can be hacked at your local Target just a few blocks from home. Why do evil people put such energy into cheating others?

I called my bank this morning. Gave them the last 4 numbers on my card and they said the card has already been canceled and a new one reissued. 7-10 working days. Ugh.

And although I'm glad they were on top of things and lookin' out for us.......my card has already been canceled? She said, yeah, you should be getting notified any time now, they have sooo many people to notify.

Luckily I didn't try to swipe it at a store...........hackers are tools!

katlan, your bank didn't cancel your account because they were looking out for your best interest. They were looking out for their own interest. Maybe it's not true for your bank or for where you live, but I'm certain my card issuer is 100% liable for fraudulent use.

I've had unauthorized charges maybe twice, the more dramatic of which was when the number had been "misappropriated" by an employee at a store where I'd used it. More than $5,000 was charged before I caught it. Net cost to me = $0

I'm normally reasonable to deal with, but if my card issuer cancelled my card BEFORE telling me so, and then said it would be longer than overnight before I got a new one, I'd end the relationship right there. There are too many alternatives that offer excellent service, there's no reason to be treated like one steer in a herd on a cattle drive.

That really is unbelievable -- to cancel the card, THEN tell you it's been canceled, then tell you it's in the mail. Another reminder that if you have 2 credit cards, they shouldn't be with the same issuer.

BUT -- there's good news for Target shoppers! 10% off today and Sunday.
(Until after Jan.1, no way am I going into anything more than a grocery store! Crazy shoppers, crazy drivers, baaad parkers!)

I had a call from a public service research bureau recently, whose principles I support, asking for a donation - not deductible, as they're labelled an "advocacy" group, rather than a "charitable" one. I listened for a bit, and told the person on the phone that, while she appeared to be legit., that to continue the call would not be useful to her, as I never give out card information over the phone.

She was from a call centre, not a volunteer directly connected with the organization, by the way - so they'd have got a portion of the proceeds.

Do you figure that when you're dealing with credit card info, e.g. checking account balances, changing PIN numbers, online, that your activities are secure??

One credit union charges me $2.00/mo. for account report because I won't let them send my report online. The other doesn't - banks don't (so far): stockbrokers, either.

Church pension comes to my account online, gov't. wants to send my gov't. pension online, plus income tax refund ... and there's some talk of them requiring that our income tax be filed online soon.

Have you received info online that there's something wrong with your bank account, PayPal account, etc., and to click here to get it straightened out? You're not going to tell me that you did, are you? Granted, such messages are initiated by others, not you, so it makes it somewhat easier for them to play nefarious games with them.
