What Are You Doing Today?

I have been making pie dough, made yeast roll dough, and made cranberry sauce and all are in the refrigerator. Alyssa came and she and her Uncle Kevin and Aunt Cheryl filled the bags of candy to be put in our stockings. Each year we fill stockings for all of our family, She also finished her crafts she was putting together for every stocking, foam door hangers with decorations stuck to them. Then they put them in each stocking. She will have to put in the pot holders they made too. Now I am going back to the kitchen to work after I sample another small candy bar! What are you all doing today?

I went this morning to get my hair cut. I moved several years ago but still go to the same hairdresser so it is a trek to get there--about 40 minutes each way. After that I stopped at the mall at one store to pick up a gift card then went to the grocery store. This evening Im going to mix up some cookie dough and in the morning bake them. Tomorrow afternoon I'll drive to Pa to pick up my daughter and I'll spend the night there. We will drive back to Maryland to my home on Christmas morning. Early afternoon and dinner will be with my oldest daughter and family. Im tired just thinking about it! Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday Marilyn Sue.

Listening to Christmas music and putting the finishing touches on the house.
I'm also washing the serving dishes.There was a couple of last minute cards that came in today. I'm trying to decide whether or not to mail out Christmas cards even though they will be late..or send a really nice New Years card.
Other than that, laundry.

Not much. No need to cook or bake this year, well I could have made cut-outs but decided not to. Neighbors brought some plus candies, a jar of homemade tortellini soup(! my supper tonight), homemade spag.sauce with a bag of red/green striped tortellini, trail bologna, cheese from another neighbor. Plus I have my little mince meat pies. Too many sweets I really don't need right now. The only running I did today was to Hallmark for another Balsam/Cedar Yankee candle - the large jar size. Love it. My other one is burning very low and getting smoky. Then to a market for some breakfast sausages which they were still out of. Bummer. Then home. The traffic was a nightmare! It was the busiest I've ever seen on a Friday before Christmas. Granted this was at the North End of the city where Walmart and all the big box stores and restaurants are. If not for kind drivers waving me in, I would probably be still sitting there waiting to get into the lane of traffic. I was so happy to see my country roads again.

Working on the taxes this morning. When that is done, I plan to photograph some jewelry so that I can get it listed in my Etsy shop. I didn't realize how much I had sitting around until I sorted through it all the other night. Hoping to take a long walk this afternoon provided it isn't raining too hard. Walked in the rain the other day (about a mile) and it was nice with my coat and umbrella. Saw some out walking who were soaked; they must have been caught unprepared or else they just didn't care. I spent the morning mowing the area below the dam of our pond. Unbeknownst to me a plastic "rock" solar light got washed to the bottom of the dam and I hit it with the mower, utterly destroying it. Then around lunch I went to a "Junior handler" hound show, which had the children handling and showing both hunting beagles, and fox hounds. After that I spent the afternoon trimming overhanging bushes and trees on our long driveway. I heard thunder and decided to stop for the day and gather everything up and put it away. Then the storm arrived. The worst of it only lasted about 45 minutes, but it was raining sideways, dropping 1 inch hail, blowing incredibly hard, and frequent, close lightning flashes. The horses were really not happy. Water was cascading down steps behind the house, flooding the driveway in several places, and blowing under doors and windows on the side facing the wind. When it slackened my wife and I went out to survey what happened, and found a plastic chair that was on the beach by the pond that had blown across the driveway and 30 feet up the hill on the other side. We also found the tiny creek that crosses the driveway a raging torrent. and one smaller culvert blocked causing sticky red mud to back-up, and cover the uphill side. The worst though was an 18" diameter sycamore tree that was down completely blocking our driveway. So the rest of the evening was spent outside in the rain, trying to clear that large tree from our driveway. Fun.

Grandson and girlfriend came over and trimmed my hideous tree (another long story that I'm repressing...oh well...). They then set the table for my Monday night family dinner, and then Henry polished the last few pieces of silver that my yard man ran out of time to do. Put the tureen for the centerpiece in my car. I took that to the florist. So, everything is almost ready for Monday night. I need to put the small things that are on trays (to make dusting easier for cleaner) back on the tables, and then I'm ready. Smartest thing I ever did was to hire someone to cook and serve the meal. It's something I've had before that she does (braised short ribs - fabulous!) and know it's good. It will not be a "fancy" meal - just using placemats and all but the sterling flatware and goblets can go in the dishwasher once a year (Wedgwood "Wild Strawberry"). The table still looks festive and pretty and it will be easy and not anywhere nearly as expensive as my usual party. Just a nice family mean. No coats and ties required but I"m hoping for a sweater and not a hoody... We will see..

I'm taking the bus to New York to spend Christmas with my daughters. An apt. Kitchen calls for an easy meal so prime rib, mashed potatoes and broccoli are on the menu along with a store bought dessert. Merry Christmas to all of you.

Staying home as DD lives next door and she is cooking again this year. She and the GD's have been making cookies like crazy and they are so good. I have some gifts to wrap yet, and not sure of the weather. Woke up to 31 below and it is now only 7 below. Just a bit chilly.

I've got bread dough rising..not sure if I will make hoagie rolls or hamburger buns..it's a toss up..hamburgers or meatball subs..

Went to town and got some groceries and the roast..

Swept twice..our crazy up and down weather has the dog shedding!

Did a bit of housework and laundry, cleaned the dog crates, made some cards, played on my ipad and now have to shorten pants.

I am doing a big ole bunch of nothing;) We had our family gathering Saturday. It was wonderful and now we are done, Each of the kids can do whatever and with whom ever on Christmas day. This is the 3rd year we have had it the weekend before and I am loving it. Now my kids do not have to worry about juggling Christmas day with their in-laws. DS's wife is an RN, DD#2 got all worked up he brother would be alone Christmas day~~I just texted him and she has the day off YEA!!

DH and I just got NetFlix and are planning on starting the Breaking Bad series on Christmas and eat junk food all day, YES!

I stayed in all day. We had a high of 5 degrees. Iowa State is playing in a Diamond Head tournament and I watched them on TV today.They beat Akron by 20 points. They play again on Christmas Day. Wish I was in Hawaii where it is warm.

Did my final grocery shopping. Returned stuff I changed my mind about, made Jasdips buttermilk refrigerator roll dough for Christmas day, made some wheat rolls, set the table for Christmas dinner and now I'm making the base for tomorrow night's fish chowder. Tomorrow I will prepare Christmas dinner, dust and vacuum.

We also did our family gathering early. It is a relief to have all the preparations over and done. I spent yesterday doing laundry, and today I'm going to read. We are going back on a diet soon so I have to get the last of the goodies eaten. Merry Christmas!

I went to the doctor yesterday and was diagnosed with bronchitis, given two shots, inhalers, throat lozenges, and 2 prescriptions. I am feeling better this morning.

Late Sunday day I found that I would be having two more guests for Christmas dinner (they were out of the country working and did not believe they would get to come home for Christmas; we are all happy that they will be here), so yesterday had to go out and buy a larger prime rib (wanted to get another small prime rib but they were out of them) and brought it home immediately to unwrap and start air drying in the fridge (I normally air dry for 7 days, so this is a big change). Just wrapped up the smaller prime rib in heavy duty foil and put in a heavy duty plastic bag and into the freezer it went for a future day of roasting. Also had to finish shopping for groceries for our Christmas dinner. I was pooped by the time I got home.

Today, my plan is to make 2 pies (whereas I was going to bake one lemon one, now I am making 1 lemon and 1 chocolate). Also may make a spice cake with caramel frosting. Will just see how it goes.

Also had to adjust my recipes for the meal by calculating new amounts of ingredients for the additional people. All of that is now done, so I can start on the pies.

Cleaning house and wrapping gifts. Vacuuming is done. DH has the bunny house cleaned and moved to the living room. Now I can sweep and mop the kitchen. As my dining room is part of the living room and has been turned into computer area we eat in the kitchen. I needed room to enlarge the table and put up a card table for dinner tomorrow. I may not need as much room as dd says she is sick.
