"Cold Brew" tea

I drink a lot of iced tea in the warmer months (that means almost all year here). I heat a cup of water in the microwave, put two family size tea bags in, and then in five minutes or so put it in my gallon plastic container. I always just leave the teabags in. Sweeten and serve.
Lipton has come out with 'cold brew' tea, I tried it today and it is good.
When it is August in Texas, not having to take the time to heat water to make ice tea is going to be a real blessing.

I have a Mr. Coffee iced tea maker, and I use the Lipton cold brew decaffeinated (family size) tea bags. I drink at least a 2-quart pitcher every day. I put a little Stevia in it. I love my iced tea, year round.

I just use regular tea bags usually orange pekoe or black tea - 6 tea bags to a jug of cold water and brew it in the fridge. Comes out perfect for me when I want iced tea.

islay, I'm afraid I have to agree with you, in spite of your "haha". I've tried everything from Lipton to Stash tea to the bulk stuff from the mediterranean grocery. I've tried bags and bulk, I just don't like it. I don't hate it, but I wouldn't choose it if I had another choice, I even like plain water better. Of course, if I put lemon or sweetener in there to cover the taste, I might like it better. Carol, I also loathe Earl Gray. I like tea. Just plain black tea, nothing in it. No sugar, no herbs, no fruits, no lemon, no oil of bergamot. Just tea, iced or hot. I do drink peppermint tea for upset stomachs and it's passable. Just passable, not particularly good. Annie

Everyone makes their tea differently so here goes mine. They are kinda like differing opinions.LOL 7 tea bags (small ones, not the family size) 1 gallon water 1 cup sugar Directions Boil 1/2 gallon of water and then place in your 1 gallon pitcher. While water is boiling open your tea bags and tie the strings together, this will make it easier to remove them later. Also removed the paper tags on the string. Place tea bags in the pitcher of water (important to do this after the water was already in the pitcher or the tea bags could open). Let sit for at least 1 hour, I sometimes let it sit all day, not more 10 hours. Remove tea bags. Do not squeeze bags when you remove. Add sugar and the additional 1/2 gallon of water and mix well. Chill in the refrigerator and serve.

I've also heard sun tea harbors bacteria. I cold brew mine..a gallon jug of filtered water from the frig, tea bags, amount depends on your strength preference, I use 7..cap it and put in frig. Done in about 6 hours. Carefully remove bags. I have found its much less bitter. All this talk expecially about the limoncello reminded me I wanted to make lemon flavored simple syrup. Its delicious in tea, waffles, or jut a bit in ice water. 3teaspoons lemon zest 2 cups cane sugar 1/2 cup lemon juice..I use the juice I zested the lemons from. 1/2 cup water Put everything in a stainless steel pot, bring to boil, turn down heat till its at a very low boil. Cook 5 minutes. Let cool, filter it, I use cheese cloth. Store in frig. I love this in sparkling blood orange Sanpellegrinos over tons of crushed ice...yummmm

I wonder if I can buy stock in Harney & Sons! Just kidding. It's a family owned company, from what I understand. But, I've always enjoyed tea, and I really got more "into" tea when I was at UCLA for my recent surgery, Since returning home, I bought a bunch of Stash tea as well as a lot of tea from Harney & Sons. The Harney & Sons company impresses me a great deal, not only for the great tea, but for their customer service. Orders are received very quickly, and samples are always included. My first order included two individually packaged tea bags but ever since then, all of my orders have included individually wrapped tea sachets. Since the tea sachets hold loose tea, I think they're great. Anyway, I do recommend that folks click on the link on the Harney site to "request a catalog." When you do that, you are taken to a page where you can view a PDF of their catalog. I am still stunned at how many different teas this company offers. Lynn and Jakkom - please let me know how you like the tea when you get it.

I used to use the Mr. Coffee iced-tea machine, too, but then I switched to just putting tea bags (Luzianne, if it's for regular iced tea, or Celestial Seasonings' Red Zinger) in a lidded pitcher with some ice cubes and water and popping it in the fridge. I usually add a bit of Splenda to the regular iced tea.

A few years ago, a friend made me some "sweet tea." It was delicious, and she sure got that "simple syrup" recipe down (she's from N.C.). But I was bouncing off the walls from the sugar -- never again!

I used the Lipton Iced Tea makers for years. Very good tea. When it broke,, I just put regular tea bags in a picture of room temp water, leave it out for a while, remove the bags and refrigerate. Years ago I would put it in a glass jar out in the sun, but you really don't need to.
