A Christmas Eve not soon forgotten

Let me start off by saying, my family has a well developed sense of humor.
Every Christmas Eve my brother and his wife, Sue and I, our 5 kids, 3 spouses, and 2 grandkids gather at my parents home for a meal after church services. This year the number 4 child, Ryan, is at his fiances, Karla, home taking a shower when he slips and hits his head on the edge of the tub. After they get the bleeding stopped Karla calls Ryans sister, Emily (the RN), to see if she thinks they should go to the ER. Yup, it's a trip to the ER for 14 stitches. It's just above his right eyebrow. All the rest of the family is gathered at my parents and Emily texts ahead to inform us that Ryan doesn't want a big fuss made over his accident and to keep the kidding to a minimum. (He must have a traumatic brain injury if he thinks that's going to happen in this family.) Ryan walks in with his head bandaged, Karla walks in behind him carrying a long, thin package. The first thing out of his brothers mouth is, "That must be the grab bars for Ryans shower."
Ryan and Karlas wedding is January 10th. Probably will need some Photoshopping on the wedding pics.

Ron, first I want to say glad Ryan is ok. Second, that smart remark
was hilarious! Loved it. Sounds exactly like our family.

Thanks Ethan. The bent stem on the rootstock mango was not an accident. I will usually do this to stimulate the pushing of the buds on the scion once it has been at least 1 month and it is still green....especially if the buds have not pushed themselves. In this case, the scion actually had some portion of it that wanted to die. Luckily two of the buds at end of the scion remained viable with one pushing out nicely (as you can see) and the other getting ready to push now. Of course you don't see the other 8 attempts I had at the same time that didn't take.....I didn't think anyone would be interested in my failures :-) Keep trying those grafts.....practice makes.....well, not perfect, but at least occassionally successful. Hosting Christmas Eve dinner -- how soon do you like to know?

What's she waiting for anyway? In my family and with most other families that I know the place, time, and menu for a Christmas Eve or Christmas Day dinner is planned weeks ahead. That is so that everyone is notified/invited and all cooks know what the game plan is and what they are to provide. Also, so the hosts can set their tables for the number coming or get in extra chairs, ice, china, etc. This meal requires a little more than just throwing some extra burgers or hot dogs on the grill like you would for a casual outdoor cookout in the summer. Even if you don't do "formal" dinners, you still need to be able to plan this meal so you are not rushed and harried. Is she subtly playing a control card with this?

Mass is at 4:30 for us. I am ill hearing about "sing along" services. We really have lost our way. When my MIL was alive we would go with them to the Children's play~ her churches excuse for a Christmas service. Have we really forgotten we need to Thank and Praise HIM for all our blessings, particularly today!!

Merry Christmas, Seagrass! Chile sauce ala Chase is a tomato based relish, it's sweet, a tiny bit hot and a little spicy: CF--Chase Recipe Introduction A bit of work but it tastes so good and your house will smell divine! Elaine's Chile Sauce 11 Q basket (1/3 bushel) of field tomatoes peeled and smashed 7 Cup white sugar 4 1/2 Cup cider vinegar 2 Bunch of celery chopped 4 small hot peppers chopped 4 large sweet peppers (2 green , 2 red) chopped 4 large onions chopped 1 Tbl ground ginger 1 Tbl cinnamon 5 Tbl coarse salt 2 Tbl Pickling spice tied in a cheesecloth bag Simmer/low boil chopped veggies with tomatoes for 2 hours then drain off 2 cups liquid. Add everything else EXCEPT sugar and simmer another 3 hours or even more, until nice and thick. Add sugar 1 hour before canning. Fill pint jars and HWB for 15 minutes.~ Annie

How's the bruising doing now, is he going to need concealer in those wedding photos?

And what kind of non slip footing have they now added to that shower, I'm a big believer in every house needing one stand alone easy access shower no matter what the residents ages. DH took a header out of the tub shower combination in our former house one evening...the shower curtain on a tension rod does not make a good grab bar.
He wasn't hurt, but certainly made the entertainment for the evening, tangled on the floor with the curtain and the rod, naked and dripping. We had a house guest who was both alarmed and hugely amused at the same time.

Glad Ryan made it through O.K. ... and he'll not forget it for a while, it appears.

Morz8 ... as "A-larm" and "A-musement" both start with "A" ... it does look as though they go together, at least A little.

omg..if it had to happen, christmas is better than getting ready for the wedding...

we have grab bars in both bathrooms...yes, we're in our 60's but we've had them for ages...in fact when we redid the one bathroom went to a walk-in shower, with grabs...
