So really I think either would work. If you had to replace say your fridge..which way would you go?

Black looks clean, but shows the light dust in the sun or bright light..SS shows watermarks and grubby fingers.. What kind of use does your kitchen get?

No, I meant 1850. My house was built in 1840. So obviously no stainless back then but then again no appliances at all...lol.. We're looking at Bosch black and stainless , trying to decide. I'll see if I can dig up a picture to post so you can see what I'm trying to do.

I absolutely love my Bosch, so quiet. I think I would go with black.

I got a Bosch when I had my kitchen redone. It is so quiet I can't even hear it running. My past ones were so noisy! It also doesn't have a heating/drying element on the bottom so no melting of anything plastic. I wouldn't trad it for anything else.

I could envision black or SS. Can you tape up some black fabric over the existing D/W to 'eyeball' the look? Looks like your kitchen faucet and fridge handles are SS, so that could work too.

We have been happy with our stacked Dishdrawers -- just two adults here to fill the top one once a day. Ours are Fisher-Paykel, but I think they sold to Whirlpool.

I would get black for the dishwasher. I really like the matching panels why aren't you going with them?

My current is a Kenmore top of the line and I hate it, it doesn't clean.

I have had 2 top of the line kitchenaid that were fantastic. I will be going back to that brand. I didn't buy the Kenmore it was new with this house.

Another vote for black. It will look more integrated in your overall scheme than stainless.

When we bought this house in 1982 there was a Kitchenaid DW and we used it for many years. When we replaced it ,the date on it was 1964!!

I draped a black cloth on it to get an idea. I forgot we do have a stainless faucet. We decided on the Bosch, I think. My daughter has one and loves it. She had top on the line Kenmore when she did her kitchen and has replaced every single appliance .

We aren't getting panels because we'd have to go back down to Plain&Fancy and get a new one made and to match up the paint again would be a pain. As you can see the DW doesn't go to the floor. It was the last year that models weren't full length. In fact we got it cheaper, because it was a model from the previous year. Regret that now. Thanks for your input. I heard Bosch pays for installation.

I would get black. I have a Kitchenaid dishwasher, about 3 yrs old, and love it.

I went thru the dw nightmare about two months ago. Last dishwasher only lasted 8 years. It was a GE. Went with a kitchen aide , it started making a weird noise the second time I used it. It didn't clean the dishes on the third time. I returned it, got a Bosch. I can overload, put them in there wrong,doesn't matter what I do, they come out clean! I love it. It also has a third rack for those odd shaped utensils. Definitely black in Your kitchen.

We ordered another Kenmore from Sears. Our old one lasted 30 years, if we get half of that out of the new one we will be happy. My kitchen was recently painted almond, so we went with a Bisque color the nearest we could find to almond. They are to install it tomorrow.

I have a Kenmore which I like very much (less than a year old). I looked at the Bosch and thought pretty sure of getting one until I found out they do not have the "heated drying" feature.
If you are not going with the panel, then I would say black also.

there is a spray paint, that can be used on plastic. why not go black, then spray paint it to match your cabinets?

Overall, I would vote for no dishwasher, but then that is just me. For just one or two people, a dishwasher isn't that economical IMHO.

I have a Whirlpool which is okay but I hate the utensil basket on the door. Would never do that again.

Now that you have tried the black to see what that looks like, put a piece of foil with the matte side out on it to see what you think of the stainless look.

In my opinion, black white and cream all look good together. I'm not a fan of greens. We re-did our kitchen in 1987, back when "Almond" was the cool color. We've made minor updates since, including a black range-hood and new floor (in an almond-like color).

Thanks mom and tami. Good idea about putting the matte side of foil to see how that looks. We went for the green because when we chipped away the baseboard, chair rail, and windows, that was the original color when the house was built 175 years ago. That also had to be custom, and P&F didn't have that exact color.

We're going DW shopping when he gets home this afternoon. Going to look at Lowes, HHGregg, and Best Buy. Wish me luck. Hate buying appliances. I just hope the Jennair refrigerator doesn't break as that would be a major decision and would affect the whole look if we didn't do panels . My old GE one lasted 30 years. I know that''ll never happen again.

We have a Bosch - and wish we didn't. We live in Canada so I do not know if this could be an issue for you. We bought ours in 2000 and had to go with a Bosch dishwasher and built-in single oven with a cooktop due to the weird configuration of our kitchen - there was a depth issue. Although made in the U.S. the sizes are not standard. In the first 5 years of use - and there are just the 2 of us and the dog, the electrical panel failed, the soap dispenser unit failed and then there was an issue with it making a loud screeching noise - fortunately it happened when the repair man was here. None of these items was covered by warranty - except for the electrical part - we had to pay for the labour - no surprise the part and the labour cost the same. Our Bosch oven had a recall problem with the convection element - again Bosch paid for the part but not the labour. We have had igniters go as well as the electrical start for the gas cooktop. I am worried that our Bosch dishwasher will fail and we will have to get another one since North American "standard" brands will not fit. So perhaps you might have the opposite problem. The dishwasher is long as well - too long. We also had to buy a Bosch subcompact front load washer and dryer after our Kenmore Elite front loader duo went kaput in year 8 - and we hardly put anything in the dryer. Due to a space problem we had to get the subcompact to allow for the venting. The Washer cost $1,800 and the dryer was about $1,600. We could have bought the full size for half the price and received a comforter set to boot. The only other alternative to the Bosch subcompacts were the LG but the dryer was a condenser and while they are used in Europe we were afraid to buy one here. The GE fridge died at age 9 and that was after a major fix. We have a height issue - what are we supposed to do, redo the kitchen to accommodate the fridge!? Our only option was a Whirlpool - a disaster starting with the problems that everyone with a Whirlpool fridge (or Whirlpool under any other name) has - starting at age 1 1/2. Apparently the rattling sound is "normal" and rattle it does. The rattling wasn't the main problem - it was the ice buildup, the total rusting of the interior of the bottom mount freezer and the FAILURE! of the fridge - 3 times. So, my suggestion is to not buy a Bosch if you can help it. By the way we had to pay for installation of our Bosch dishwasher. But then we live in Canada.

Please get back to us about what you find. I'm going to have to replace the bottom-of-the-line GE at the condo; doubt it will go another 13 years, and the front panel is dinged. I don't know if we'll need to replace the GE side-by-side too -- also age 13 and running OK, but cosmetic damage of the interior. Only GE makes a model that will fit the space. (Prices you pay for renting out your vacation home!)

Hi lily ...I can't believe the same thing happened to us. In our first kitchen, we put in the highest rated appliances, which turned out to be Viking stove, SubZero refrigerator and Top of the line Kenmore dishwasher. We had panels made for the dishwasher and refrigerator to match the cabinets. Loved all of them. We moved and bought another house. This one needed a kitchen, too, and so we replicated the appliances ( slightly smaller stove)' and this time I got the Plain and Fancy cabinets I'd been talked out of the first time. Loved everything. Then the Kenmore dishwasher gave out after 3 years! In order to get a dishwasher which would accept a matching panel it would have had to have been a special order and I wasn't willing to wait. So we bought a Bosch stainless and are very happy with its performance and sound level (practically none). However, I would have liked a paneled one so much better, and of course the panel that fit our Kenmore wouldn't even remotely fit our new dishwasher. Very happy with the dishwasher, not so happy with the look. I think a black one would look super in your kitchen.

That's funny, Sudie. When I did the kitchen in 2002, I didn't give a thought to when the appliances broke. It was hassle enough tonight to just buy the darn thing, never mind a trip to P&F(which is only 30 minutes away) and then to special order a DW and have a new panel made as the old one would not fit the new long DW. I told husband tonight , I don't know what I'll do when the Jennair refrig goes . That's such a big item and counterbalances the green corner cupboard on the other side. Don't get me wrong, I love stainless. My daughter has a great Samsung but it would not look good in MY kitchen

Who knew everyone in the world would be out tonight. First went to Lowes. One guy was working the appliances and he was busy. Next HHGregg where we were waited on by someone who very little about DWs. Then to Best Buy where we waited for 30 minutes while the one guy in a appliance part waited on a couple buying a Hoover cleaner. Finally left and went back to Lowes where we ended up buying the black Bosch. It was the exact same price at all the stores down to the $, but Lowes had a 10% sale till tomorrow so we bought it there even though it wasn't in stock. It's not super ugly, not shiny or textured, kinda matte. Sales guy said he has one and he sells more of these than any other. So, we'll see.

chessey24, if your dishwasher is like mine, you can remove that utensil basket from the door, and it will fit in the left hand corner of your lower rack. My Whirlpool was only a couple of months old when we bought this house, and previous owner, had it in the lower rack. Since I have a very large roaster that I put in there all the time, I moved it on to the door. It does work better on the lower rack, and since hubby passed away, I dont use the large roaster all that often anymore, and I have thought of moving it back.

I love our Bosch and white or black would look good in your kitchen!!

Kenmore elite dishwasher which has been the best dw we've had. Very quite.
Our good friends have the same dw and they give it an A+ also.

I found your post interesting as I was just having the same conversation with a friend who was visiting over New Years about the panel matching my cupboards covering the dishwasher and my concern over what to do when time comes to replace the dishwasher. We have a Miele and I just love it, best dishwasher I have ever had, although by far the most expensive dishwasher I have ever had. I am not sure if we could remove the panel off the existing dishwasher and have it put onto a new one without damaging it. The dishwasher is 12 years old. Hoping it continues to work well!!!!!!
