I'm really enjoying the stories you are posting. May I suggest you copy the stories you have already posted here to your blog so that those readers not from the KT can enjoy them as well? You could just cut and paste them to save the trouble of typing them over again.

Minnlady, I adore your stories and have made a favorites of that link. I was so sad to read the last (so far) little story. This is my favorite type of story to read! I can see the places you describe and would love to read all that you produce. My mother was born in 1925 and how I regret that I could not get much of these types of remembrances ever from her. She mostly talked of old boyfriends and clothes that she remembered! Best regards!

I love, love your stories too! My mom was born in 1920 but has never been one to tell stories of her youth; part of the reason is that it's rather painful for her to remember the depression days. I'm thinking of sending these to her, if it's alright with you. Would that be ok?

It's Ok with me. Since they are going in my blog they are rather public.

I feel that the times in which your mother and I lived should not be forgotten and the folks who lived them are disappearing. Hence my efforts.

The History books have mostly relegated those times to a few paragraphs. They were hard, interesting, and sometimes inspiring times. I want my children and grandchildren to hear some of that life firsthand.

I'm so glad you are continuing your stories. I had many bedtime stories about my mother's life on a farm, but can always use more tales of growing up in an America very different from today.

My mother's stories date back farther than yours. She was born in 1905 -- despite the 1907 on her driver's license. (My MIL was another 'deceiver', having lopped five years off her 1896 birthdate.)

My mother was an only child and grew up on a tiny farm in rural Rhode Island. MIL's family were Danish immigrants who moved their young family from a sod house in Iowa to establish a farm in Minnesota. She was one of seven.

My mother attended a one-room school with an attendance that varied depending on the need for farm labor. My MIL -- like you -- taught in a small school for a year; then she trained as a nurse.

One Christmas my mother received *an orange* -- and was delighted and amazed. Our DS could use a shovel to move the clutter of toys in our granddaughter's play area.
