Boss Christmas gift

I want to give my boss and his wife a Christmas gift. Any good ideas out there, that aren't way too personal? We value not being close, but professional instead. What would you give someone who has everything, yet, you still want to acknowledge them? A very small something. Last year was each of them individually, but I'd like for it to be a "them" gift this year.

I did the Williams Sonoma chocolate/caramel apple this year. Very good. And huge!

You don't mention, if it's the bosses intention to connect the speakers, using wires, to his TV and then run those wires outside. If this is the care, be careful, There are MANY newer TV's that have no direct output for external speakers, and you would need to connect the audio out on the TV to an amp and then to the speakers. They do have wireless speakers too, albeit more expensive, but you would still need an extra amp to run them unless the TV does indeed have "Speaker output Jacks". Gary

My favorite gift was a surprise - dh and I went to Ireland a few months ago. While there, I bought several pieces of pottery on the second day we were there, as well as woolen goods and a beautiful painting, plus some things for our kids. The pottery and painting were shipped home by the stores, but our extra suitcase was full of the sweaters, etc. So on one of our last days there, the B&B we were staying in had these gorgeous, unique teapots. When I mentioned them to the B&B owner, he told me they were from a pottery shop in town. We stopped there, and not only were they expensive, but I didn't have room to bring home with us and shipping wasn't worth it to me for the one thing. After we got home, I told dh I regretted not buying it b/c it was truly a unique and interesting piece of pottery (plus I drink a lot of tea!). At some point, dh called the shop owner and ordered one for me for Christmas! We only had one thing that was a dud of sorts. I'm pretty strict about electronics with my kids - seems that most of their friends own expensive electronics from an early age. Dd was 12 before she got an iPod Touch (whereas my younger sons' friends were getting them as early as age 7). So that was kinda the benchmark for my younger kids. So my next oldest was getting one this year for Christmas (he turns 12 next week). To keep this story relatively short, after much contemplation, we decided to give our 10 y/o one too, mainly b/c he had many personal obstacles this year (and always seems to) that my other kids have never had to deal with. As it turned out, my adult neighbor had one that she was no longer using and asked if we wanted it for free. She wiped everything off it, still had all the original packaging, etc. He wouldn't really know the difference. So he got it, was all excited, I had charged it ahead, etc. Well, I go to download some game apps that he picked out and nearly all of them wouldn't download and I was getting some sort of pop up about the software. So after googling it, I determined that the iPod was one of the earlier "generations" and that the software had been upgraded so much that most of the game apps will not run on the older ones! So I had to pretend something was wrong with it and told him we'd go out the next day and replace it. Fortunately, he had no clue what the deal was, but I felt like an idiot! So much for trying to save $200! THe old one will download some apps and can still be used for other things, but the most important thing, the games, was the one thing that he really wanted it for!

This is probably something like offering you a bottle of water when your/their basement is flooded, but ... ... quite likely they already have one of those books of maps, about a foot by a foot and a half, that includes the maps of the whole of the U.S. and Canada, as well as individual pages of states or parts of such, cities, etc. Are you adept with fingers, parts of brain, etc. which has meant that you've developed handicraft skills to enable you to make something smallish which they could carry with them, e.g. a wall hanging, "This is the home of Elena and Harry What's- their-name" ... or something like, "We're happily retired ... but busy: spending our kids' inheritance". Can't think of anything more relevant, at the moment. ole joyful

Yes! I lose Christmas gifts! I had a very busy day yesterday with a short window of time to wrap lots of presents while my son was at the babysitter. I have a genetic defect which makes me put things away in hiding spots and then forget where I've put them. My mother passed this gene on to me. I remember lots of holiday dinners where she remembered the rolls in the oven after we'd all begun eating, etc. She also buys "C" batteries at the store only to get home and find that they've changed into "AA" size batteries, and so on. Yup, me too. I buy 3 packages of Large undershirts for my husband only to get home and find out that I've got 2 "large" and one "Extra Small". So I finally found all of my wrapables yesterday and got everything done in record time! And I was smart enough to put ALL of the wrapped gifts in one big box in the closet. Oh, except for the space heater for my husband's ice-fishing shack. That was too big to put in the gift box so I put it in the closet and hid it under a coat. I'm SURE I won't forget to put it out on Christmas Eve with the rest of the presents........maybe a kind Kitchen Table person can remind me????

Maybe a small gift basket with gourmet items? If you know they like tea or coffee, an assortment of those and a couple classy mugs, good chocolate (if that's something they like), cookies, etc. That's not too personal and most people love a nice basket. Most grocery stores sell cellophane so you can wrap it professionally and attach a tag and some Christmasy deco.

Funny! I've done all of these. Except the crock wasn't for butter (last year), it was a salt cellar. Close enough. These are good ideas for others to whom I'd give, so keep 'em coming!

At work I like giving something that is Christmas related like dish towel and pot holders, small holiday pillow, an ornament. They will be reminded each Christmas of how much they are appreciated by me.

Last year I gave everyone a Li Bien ornament from Pier 1. They came in very nice gift boxes that don't need to be wrapped.

A Vista/Master Card gift Card, that can be used anywhere.
If you know they travel alot, PBS (Public Broadcasting System) have some great DVD travel films that if you watch are on sale. Or if you know they collect things, they also have ones on things like trains, nature etc
If they are garderners, and like outdoor things, check the catalogs for ideas.

Harry and David's Royal Imperial pears. I just love them. They are the biggest, juiciest pears! And they're made in the USA ;-) We sent them to Harry's brother this year and I know he'll love them.

Not sure how much your looking to spend but I have always sent my boss a Corky's rib selection. They are precooked and packed in dry ice. There's lots of choices as far as sides and etc. Corky's ribs in Memphis. www.corkysmemphis.com.

Acres, my b-i-l sends a box of those every year. I like them ok, but don't love them because I'm not a big bbq gal. However, hubby and one dd like them. We don't know how to tell him to stop sending because it's a very nice gesture.

I love giving gifts from local artisans, artists, etc. There's an old stone grinding mill not too far from here and we love giving their fresh corn meal, pancake mix, grits, or flour.

I wish adellabedella! He's a cardiologist and even if he wasn't, she's a health conscience eater. They send food to work for the lab to consume :( It'd break my heart to make something for them, knowing they'd just give it away. Ok, they'd pProbably give it away.

Someone tried to give my son a gift card and they wanted me to sign up for a monthly fee based thing along with my SSN. Nope! Heck no! Talk about a waste! I wish I knew how to get one without all that buisness with it.

I might get them my trusted bottle of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. Can't go wrong with that, with pears and cheese. She's a gardener, he's not. They travel, but they're GPS-ers and flight users (I love to thumb through atlas, like I do encyclopedias). These are all great gifts, though. You see why I am stuck! But we can use these ideas for other small gift ideas. Y'all tried! I know. I appreciate it! La bien! Ha! That's another work one. But I love getting those Christmas socks. Really, my favorite.

do they have a favorite poet, or an oldie album they enjoy?

Well, Rob, if he's a cardiologist, he must know that drinking a glass of red wine every day is good for the heart! And I doubt he'd send a bottle of wine to the lab for the employees to consume. After all, the only way they'd be able to share it would be to drink at work!

Get him a seasonal flower arrangement. If not something Christmasy then something that would look good for New Years.

Make a donation in their name to something that they might be passionate about. The amount does not have to be shown on the card that they receive just that a donation was made in their name thanking them.
