That's funny. Some people get along better with animals than with people.

Maybe he doesn't realize how he puts people off. Maybe you could change the subject to his cats. Ask him what their names are or were they strays, etc.. My husband always frowned when a neighbor came over while he was working in the garage. One neighbor said to me, "your husband always frowns when I walk up". I told him he gets so deep into what he is doing any interruption will make him frown. He likes to visitors.

I would say it takes a pretty small mind to snipe at someone the way you just did at Moonie, for no good reason that I can discern.

I thought this forum was to share what is going on in our lives, not to judge who has small, average, or great minds. Interesting story Moonie.

Moonie, your story reminds me of a former neighbor who we used to avoid like the plague. But she was a dog whisperer, my term for her. She would approach a dog, squat down on her heels, and simply encompass the dog with love. She would give a dog a whole body message, all while whispering in Korean.

One of our other neighbors relied on her to give an elderly, snappy dog medications. Or baths or nail trims.

But a friendly chit chat was impossible with her....she would curse loudly, complain about everything, yikes.

But we learned to love her. She's been gone for around five years now, but we still talk about her with a smile on our face. I can still hear her ranting, lol.

Funny story, moonie, and yes, now you have more insight into your neighbor's way of thinking. People are sometimes funny and sometimes cranky and sometimes judgemental and sometimes ridiculous, as we can see all around us. ;

I'd like to be your neighbor.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story about the gruff man and his kitties. I remember the old days at the KT when we were all polite to each other. I know trolls come along and like to stir the pot.

I really can never figure out what prompts a person to say mean things. You can disagree with someone without being mean. It's not even hard to do.

Luckily it sounds like most people are willing to overlook the rudeness of such posts and continue to enjoy each other's comments. :)

Your thread reminds me of the first time I called (in answer to his ad) the man I had as a companion for 17 years. When he answered the phone he sounded so gruff I hung up without saying a word.

Why alter your behavior or comings and goings from your house depending on what a neighbor is doing? He may talk about you as being the neighbor who peeks out the window and never leaves the house when he's outside.

It's a cute story and I laughed when I read justlinda's comment because I thought to myself, well now you found another one to avoid....

Snidely I think she made it pretty plain why she was attempting to avoid the neighbor...Just her way of handling a sticky, distasteful situation. Consider that your attitude and rudeness is most likely the type thing she is trying to avoid...It is just easier to avoid him than it is you...Obviously her method works for her.

Moonie, I also enjoyed your story. It is interesting to observe such a different side of someone. I have a neighbor just like that. Now that you posted this, I'd love to see what he's like with his little dog!

LOL, this reminds me of my oldest brother. He's grouchy as can be, sometimes downright hateful. We stayed at his house last summer when we went out to see my dad. When he came home from work he spent time talking to me and the kids...and watching, I think the show is called "Too Cute"...about puppies. My daughter still laughs about it.

Has your neighbor been like this since they moved in, or is it something more recent? It seems like a big difference in personality to me.
