I know many of you use yahoo and have had problems with it since the new change. I thought you might be interested in this article about what is happening.
This is just one of many of course.

I know a few people who have had problems. My Y mail accounts have been untouched so far.

I don't know if this big blowup is related to the other issues that have been simmering over the weeks, but they've botched this one up big time. Not the least of which by not being upfront and honest about announcing problems and expected resolutions. They should have had banners on the home page with timely information.

What used to be a shining star in the internet world has sunk. I wonder if they'll be able to reverse their slide?

Thanks kudzu9 and linesman. I have tried the logging in and out before and it would work sometimes then go back to doing nothing. Linesman, I knew I could click on the word subject like you said, but I just thought it wasn't working properly. None of my family are having the same problem though. It's always me that has problems with yahoo,lol. So do you think I have a newer update? I don't know why I would. Do they have more recent updates that I accidentally found? And believe me, it would be an accident!!! And if y'all are tired of my rambling, I appreciate y'all's help. thanks, gabby

Without more info, there's no telling if OP's "toolbar" reference is browser related or something in the Y mail page content. There are parts of the "new" mail page that look like toolbars. If Avast is acting up, try a different product - there are many alternatives (including in the free space) that are more highly rated than Avast. I use Y mail and have found it to be performing erratically over the past few weeks. Erratic in many ways including delayed mail delivery, inability to connect or getting disconnected in mid-session, etc., Rule #1 about using any kind of technology is if something doesn't seem to work, try something else. Don't do the same thing again unless you want to experience the same result again. Cheerful, if you find your husband isn't getting your emails, why not send an SMS message instead?

Bee you can keep your yahoo address but use a different email client to fetch all your yahoo mail and display it in their email format, you can also select to have any mail you are sending out from that new email client send it as the from address being your yahoo address. No one would know you had changed and you would not have to go through that hassle. I have that feature set up on some of mine I have kept some of my old email addresses active that way but never actually go there and use them. For example that gmx one is super easy to set up and use, it will not change a thing on your yahoo account so don't be afraid to do it because you think it may mess that up. It will then list on the gmx account your yahoo account and when you click on that you see all of that mail, it will also your gmx account and any mail etc you have in it. Most of the major players offer this option just because people dread having to make all those changes and notifying everyone. Plus if you decide you don't like it and don't want it just drop it, they are all free so why not give them a test drive. And it is usually very easy to copy your address book over also. this article covers this for gmail accounts, as I said most of the major ones can do this. I never use my Yahoo account. I only use the email address when I need to sign up for something that I don't fully trust not to sell my address to spam mail servers. It really helps to keep my gmail and ISP email accounts fairly clear of spam. So the above 'solution' was found after a google search. Looking through my own yahoo page, I also do not see this option, so it must be outdated. And I can't seem to find another option anywhere else. That said, I only have two emails saved in my contacts list, so apparently Yahoo has not been automagically saving new contacts for me. I will keep looking to see if I can stumble across a solution for you. Edit: And here is something I have found. Mouseover the Cog on the right upper side. Click 'Settings'. Click 'Writing Email'. Uncheck 'Automatically add new recipients to Contacts'. This sounds like it only saves emails in your contacts list if you respond to someone, not if you read their emails, but it might be worth a shot. Also, on the off-chance you have a virus that is sending out emails (and thus adding the contacts), check your Sent Mail to see if there is anything there that you didn't send. I have come to ignore the adds they put in the INBOX. It was above and that was ok. The first day was irritating, but now I just skip over them. Don't even look at them. It's really getting obnoxious that ads are getting so intrusive. Not just on Yahoo. Bottom corners of tv shows (I really hate it when they expand the add and it covers up what is truly going on. ugh!), or inside of GardenWeb threads. OB-NOX-IOUS!

rob333 have you tried using adblock plus with the easylist on your browser? It will eliminate all of those ads including the ones in email. I use firefox and always add that extension. I use hotmail for most of my email and never see any of the ads. Never see any here at GW either.
They do make the adblock plus for some other browsers as well.

Man if I could make those tv ads in the corners disappear I would be a rich woman! We hate those also!

What about the Yahoo calendar. I'm all right now with the mail, but the calendar still won't open with the most recent updates of the system. They are really behind the times.

I think Google's mail and calendar put Yahoo to shame, although not everyone might agree with that. If you can deal with switching over to gmail, I think you'd find it worthwhile.

I love google calendar. But I've had Yahoo so long, same address for so long, I really don't want to get rid of it. I guess I could transition over and have all my mail go to google, forwarded from Yahoo. Hardly seems worth it?

Thanks. I am now using Google calendar but liked Yahoo better. However, I'm learning to adapt. I'll still use Yahoo mail until I start having problems there too. There have been a few but it is better than it was. They sure have goofed up by trying to improve things.

What's odd here is that my Yahoo mail never switched to the
newest version.
The only problem I have is that attachments won't open
using Firefox because the Yahoo internal virus protection
(Norton) blocks them because of a certificate problem.
I downloaded an ad-on to Firefox which "skips certificate
problems", but it doesn't always work.
It's easier to just use IE for Yahoo mail attchs which lets
me download them just fine.
