Called here...but, we have caller-id, and we google the number to see if it's a name/number that we know.

I try to answer the phone only if I know who's calling, and no 800 numbers...they can leave a message, which they usually don't. I look up the numbers on the "reverse phone" on the white pages site, there you can see other people have gotten called by them and it's usually a scam.

Yep. They've gotten a couple of elderly people in town. The police have been issuing press releases warning people about it.

Make NO MISTAKE this IS a scam! The IRS would never call and make a threatening call to you. If the IRS needed to contact you, they would send you a snail mail letter.

My call was from...get this..."Officer Franklin Benjamen" how silly is THAT? HA! And they say "Internal Revenue Services" with an S and they say something like "tax audit department".

We screen all calls, friends/family know this~~so they listen to the message and start yelling into the phone to us.

I know that IRS deal is a scam, they would never call people. One we get is as they say from our computer server and want us to punch certain numbers~~~Blah Blah~~~it is all BS!

We heard on the news, the reason we still get these calls even tho we are on the do not call list, is because the list is only for your state and these people are calling from out of state:(

We get at least 4-5 calls a day, I hate it!!

There's nothing new about scams and cons, every era just presents new tools the crooks can use to reach potential victims.

Anyone who isn't together enough to be able to pick real from phony needs to have someone else managing their finances. Such services are available commercially if not from friends or family members.

I read an article by Liz Weston recently that stated that the IRS does NOT call if there is an issue. They send the information by mail.
