Motor Home flooring pictures

One Dec. 1 we brought our motor home to Weatherford, Texas to have the flooring replaced. The original carpeting was 8 years old and getting loose and kind of bare in places. The tile looking stuff had some dents and scraped places.

I had found this fellow on the internet and had looked at many of the pictures of the motor homes he had worked on. I contacted him in September and found he had an opening the beginning of December. I was thrilled we could get in so soon. He does 2 coaches a month and is now booked through July.

Here is what it looked like when we brought it in.

What it looks like now. We are so thrilled with it and it will be so much easier to keep clean.

It is beautiful! You will absolutely love it, and it will be much easier to keep clean. Isn't it about time to start planning the next trip to VA?

The HF mixers have 3.5 CF drums. If you turned the drum straight up and filled it with water it would hold 3.5 CF of water. They will only mix about 1.5 CF of concrete. Says on the box, mixes up to 220 pounds of concrete. A CF of concrete is about 150 pounds. So 1.5 CF would be 225 pounds. Where as my drum has a total capacity of 11 CF. At full capacity it would mix about 4.25 CF of concrete. But a lot would probably splatter out as it mixed. So I think a realistic number would be 3 CF. But the 1.5 CF I am making now is almost too heavy to dump. If I had a helper I could probably mix bigger batches. But for just me 1.5 CF works out about right. Pooh Bear

Man, it's time to lose 20 lbs. and get a face lift. Ick! I have that "deer in the headlights" looks because Nita reminded us not to blink LOL! Ruthie you are right. Mike is so nice. He and Nita are the perfect couple. Joann, we wish you could've been here, too. We'll have to plan earlier next year. BTW, that wall is not orange (in the picture of the guys). It's the same color as the wall behind us girls.

susanjn, the question was in another post so I thought I would start a new post to have a title that indicates that a picture is finally being sent of the support pole I keep mentioning. I wanted to know if the pole needed another coat of paint since to me it does not look white like it should being that it was painted the same white as the trim. The painter wrote me back and told me he will do a brighter white on the pole and see if it covers the grayish color so my pole will look white when he comes back from vacation and then will finish my floor since he also does floors and I do not want the former flooring guy to finish my floor knowing he was leaving too much space between the boards and not making me happy. Thanks ajsmama for your post. I really like how the filing cabinets look with the wall color and I like that I now do not see gray in the back wall like I did with the Linen White color that was lemon in the front of the room and gray in the back of the room as it reflected off the cabinet color. I was very worried about the paint color but it turned out better than expected. I am starting to like the soft white on the trim but want the pole to have another coat of paint and to make sure it looks white. I can't wait to post pictures when my floor is done which appears to be next Saturday if all goes well. I wish the new floor guy would finish the floor in the next few days but I guess he is busy.

"How cool dilly dally! Does your bathroom have the original toilet & sink? Was the sink a wall hung one? And are the shower doors original or were they added later? There is a curtain rod above the shower doors and we can't figure out why there are both." No, I checked the date on the toilet when I was looking at the real estate and it was replaced in 1982. (You can look under the tank lid to see the date stamp.) I'm not sure about the sink. It is one that hangs off the wall though. The tub I know is original. It is the same as the one you show with the wider ledge in the middle. My shower rod was installed so that the curtain hung inside the tub. I moved it so the curtain hangs outside. No shower doors. (Thank gawd. I hate them.) I don't think shower doors would be original with a tub like that. My tub is grody. No shine left on it and it always looks dirty. I've looked into replacing it but there is no way to get it out without damaging tiles I was told and the size is so odd that a replacement to fit exactly is impossible. I may have to buy one of those acrylic tub recovers to get a decent tub that looks clean. The original "shower head" was called a 'Victorian' I found out. It was like a stick on a hinge from the wall, low, about waist high. You moved it up and tiled the hinged head to shower. Or you moved it straight down to fill the tub. I liked it. I had to replace it when it broke and could not find anything like it. They don't make them any more. I had to redo the whole works adding separate faucet and showerhead and controls. You probably have a built in ironing board in the kitchen. Most of them end up getting converted into spice cabinets. Mine still had the original wood ironing board in it and although I do iron a lot I did not want to iron on an old stinky wood thing. The built in wall ironing boards that they seel nowdays to do not retro fit into these old ones. I made mine into a spice cabinet by adding little shelves. I'm glad I did it this way. It's one thing to be a purist and try to preserve the ingerity of a vintage home but if it means wasted space with a non functioning widget - it goes. There is also a thing built into the wall in the basement that I had thought was an old mangle in the laundry room at first. (They were popular in that era.) There was a slit in the wall by it. There was a built-in long table in the rec room by the slit on the other side of the wall. I figured out that it was made to hold a roll of kraft paper to pull through the slit to use as a disposable table cover. I know they still sell rolls of table kraft paper like this for restaurants, so I could use it but I never throw dinner parties in my basement and don't have kids who do crafts. "The original must have been one with long pipes." I still have the original. It did not work when I bought the house. I found out when I took it apart to repair, that the pipes do not create the sound. There was a sort of xylophone thingy inside that made the actual sound. The pipes were for decoration only. If I had not been able to repair it, I was going to get a wireless chime to install elsewhere in the house and use the alcove for holding a decorative vase or something. "It's when you cut or break it that it releases fibers and causes problems." True. Some people do not know about asbestos tile and try to chisel it up without proper proceedure. Thank you all for your comments. Lydia, we bought a Hickory laminate flooring. It can't be a floating floor, Ernie uses a polyurathane glue to attach the wood to the floors. He also fits the wood in so tight that there is no molding around the edges anywhere. It is really amazing how beautiful it turned out. The one thing I really like about it is that you can see where each board ends as it dents in. I was looking at my hairdressers laminate the other day and it is just flat. We paid about $5 a square foot and we have about 320 square feet. The fellow charges $300 a day for his labor and it takes about 2 weeks to complete.

As I tell everyone, it isn't cheap but you can't take your money with you and our kids would spend it faster than you could blink your eyes. LOL

There is a lot of mess before hand. At one point the dinnette was removed and we were eating on a roll up card table with two chairs for several days. We lived in it the whole time it was being renovated.

Here are a couple close ups of the wood.

The entry stairs also got covered with wood. I am going to put carpet treads to keep water and dirt from shoes from coming in. The hanging wire is for a light that Ernie is getting from a friend of his and will be installed when we go back. We will also use some throw rugs to add some color and keep some drips from the kitchen and bathroom from getting on the wood.

Ernie had plenty of help.

I thought we would have to take the cats out of the motor home while Ernie worked but they did fine. Mostly they just went into the bedroom and slept.

The only problem we had was that one of the slides in the bedroom was leaking when it rained so we have it in Tucson right now getting fixed. Then we will head back to Weatherford to have Ernie finish the installation in the back half of the coach. He said it should take about 4 days to complete. We are also having the carpeting replaced under the kitchen sink and the closset.

I love it. He did a wonderful job. We have been looking at bigger options to possibly upgrade to and the main make or break for me is no carpet. I have been spoiled by our current one with no carpet and I don't want to go to something with carpet.
Unfortunately a lot of them are still being made with carpet so I would probably have to do exactly what you did. Good to know he is not too far away and is so good.

Love how it blends in so well with the rest of the wood.

Raven, while we were there he told us he only does top end coaches. I don't know why probably because of the cost. By the time we are done we will have spent approximately $6,000.

Our next project when this is completed will be to get the windows done. They are dual pane and the gas has escaped so they look foggy. There is a company in Phoenix that takes them out. Then takes them apart and cleans the glass and reassembles them and puts them back in. That cost $200 a window but would be double having the dealer do it. Our home away from home will be like brand new when we are finished.

OldFixer, that is the way he does it. He has you park your coach about 30 feet from his house in his back yard and hooks you up with water and electric. He has a dump site for the sewer down the street at another house he owns if you need it. Most of his customers come from all over the country to get their coaches worked on. We live 900 miles from his place.

He works from 8am to 4pm with a short break for lunch. Mike helped him take out the captain's chairs and also helped take out the carpeting. The couch and loveseat were placed on rollers and moved about in the open space as needed. Once the carpeting was removed from under those they were put back until he wanted to install the flooring. I kept out of the way mostly by reading in the bedroom. We set our alarm for 6am and were dressed, finished breakfast and everything cleared away before Ernie got there.

He had a good size wire kennel with a top for the cats in his living room. I told him I would put the cats there and he said "no" they were doing great in the motor home and he actually enjoyed their wandering around. They never got in his way or into his stuff. When he was done working he would stack his tools (which he kept to a minimum) in a corner.

He has a 26' enclosed trailer that is beside the coach and that is where his saws are kept. He has them on rolling tables and sets them up outside close to the coach door.

He has an excellent set up and we at no time were in his way. He said he once had a coach with no slides and the people hat 7 cats and a dog in there while he worked. Now I think that is a little much don't you?

He sounds like an awesome guy. I love that he enjoyed having the cats around. Very nice. Sounds like another trip our way to get it finished.
We have been out in our RV for a week now, head home tomorrow, and are still very happy we made the decision to buy. Which is why we want to go bigger and better!

You were lucky to have such a great guy doing the work! I can't imagine living there while all the work is being done. The cats are gorgeous.. glad they managed so well through the remodel.

Honestly, it wasn't bad. Most of the floors were covered in carpet which came up easily with not much dust. Taking up the tile looking stuff was the worst but was the slowest. Ernie cleaned as he went. It took almost 3 days to get the tile stuff up in the kitchen. The only other place to have that flooring is the closet where the commode is. He is going to do that on this next trip.

I read mostly on my kindle and Mike went to a couple of movies. We also did a little shopping. For over a week we were stuck in that ice storm that crippled Dallas. It honestly wasn't bad. The hardest part was getting up at 6 every morning.

Ernie is a very nice guy with lots of patience, he has to be in order to do the slow, tedious work that he does.
