Do you Use an Oven Liner?

I've always put a cheap aluminum oven liner on the floor, under the element.

I notice the new ones say to put on the lowest rack.

Is there a reason why it shouldn't be on the floor? Do you notice an uneven oven temp using them?

For things that I know will spill over....scalloped potatoes etc, I always set the dish on a cookie sheet, but pizzas drip onto the oven tray, so I don't want to *not* use one.

I have the liner and use it on the floor of the oven, under the bottom element, and have been very satisfied. I wonder why they are saying to put it on the lowest rack?

I was told never to put tin foil on the bottom of the stove as it affects the temperature of the oven.

I have a self clean oven so spills clean easy. Just push a button and wait 2 hours, wipe out and done.

An update. We purchased a Fisher and Paykel double oven for $2600 delivered from an authorized dealer over Ebay of all places. I checked the wiring to our old oven and I was amazed to discover that although it was a 30 amp breaker they had used 8 gauge wire. I installed a 40 amp breaker and we were good to go. As mentioned in this thread, when you have the option of two dishes that require different temps. and oven modes to prepare you use what you have. Our menus have expanded since we installed the double oven. We purchased a countertop microwave in stainless to match the ovens. So far the biggest difference is that the FP oven is far superior compared to the Jennair that we had. I never thought that an oven would make such a difference. The same recipes taste so much better. Even a simple dish like roasted new potatoes with rosemary have a creamier texture while still remaining crisp. Based on my experience I would not hesitate recommending a double oven if you can accommodate them n your kitchen. Thanks for the advice offered....

I use my steam oven all the time, but I don't really think that is useful information to _you_. What kind of cooking do you do? How often do you cook? Are you feeding a family of 2 or a family of 5? I will say that with a steam oven there will be a bit more of a learning curve than a speed oven. Most speed ovens are very easy to use. Many have menus that let you pick the type of food you're cooking and the quantity and boom, you sit back and relax while it does its job. Are you willing to experiment and learn more about a different type of cooking? Do you have time to do that? Like speed ovens, steam ovens are quite versatile, particularly combi steam ovens (these have convection too). They are not just for steaming vegetables as Gary makes them sound. I like them a lot for roasting, for the past few years I've done the Thanksgiving turkey in mine and each time they've come out quick and delicious. Another use is reheating. Leftovers taste great heating in there vs. a microwave. Though if you're going to be doing mainly reheating, a speed oven might be a better bet.

DO NOT USE A. LINER. I did that and now have a rust hole in the bottom. There are no parts to replace it and I now have to buy a new double wall oven. I loved this oven too. They should have, DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON THE BOTTOM OF THE OVEN because I see many people have done the same thing you and I have done. What an awful experience for me. They told me they couldn't find liners to replace mine. I am distraught. I will never buy an Electrolux appliance again and I did love the oven.

My monogram oven had a small electrical fire and have been without oven for weeks. i have the 120V advantium ...but for last 10 years have really only used microwave feature, We too are empty nesters. without an oven I have learned to bake cookies, make a casserole and roast vegetables all in the advanutum and regret waiting so long to figure this out. I watched some UTube videos and experimented. I really love the speed cooI option. Give it a try and you won’t look back

No, I do what Debby does. I can't remember why you shouldn't put a liner on the oven floor.

I bought a couple oven liners. When I got home I read the package, and it said not to use in a gas oven. So I've never used them.

I also remember reading about not putting foil on the bottom, but I don't remember why.

When I do pizza, I put it right on a cookie sheet. Like debby_ab, I have a self clean oven, so I don't worry about spills.

Mine isn't aluminum, but some kind of flexible stuff...almost like a heavy plastic. Perhaps teflon? I had a cheapie, but got this as part of a gift from a DD, and can't recall just what it is, I've been using for about four years, and it's still good as new.

Jasdip-Maybe those instructions are for gas ovens.I know you aren't suppose to put foil or liners in the bottom of gas ovens.

For the house in the suburbs--no--it's a gas range, and you can't use a liner or foil on the bottom of one of those.

At the country house, where I have an electric ranges, I just put a sheat of foil under the element, on the bottom of the oven. Does the trick.

I never use one. I put my pies on jelly roll pans and if they should run over it is caught on them. Anything else gets on there, if it can't be wiped up I wait till it gets dirtier and then turn that oven on to clean. I have had this range over two years and I think I have only cleaned it 3 times. So no I will not start using one now.

I had NO idea that with the new ovens the heat generated on the floor would cook the aluminum to the floor. Wow.
I guess gas would do the same. I would never have expected that.

Years ago, I used to line the bottom of my electric oven with foil. Now I put pies of a cookie sheet lined with foil. I have a self cleaning oven.

Be careful with aluminum foil around an electric glass stove top.

A piece of crumpled foil got on one of my burners when the burner was on, and it bonded to the top.
I carefully removed what I could scrape off, but there is a silvery irregular spot there forevever.

The burner still functions all right.

I would never use one.

If I have a drippy something, I put it on a pan lined with parchment.

What are you cooking that drips so much you need a drip-pan in the bottom of the oven? Really this is an honest question - I'm not being snarky.

My oven is self cleaning, and I do use that feature, but really, I don't get drips on the bottom of the oven - I get spatters of grease on the walls.

I had my bottom oven element short out on one of those foil pans with a lip. Watch the lip doesn't touch the element!
