I've posted about our saga with our Westie -- surgery, etc. That was the same day...

DH started a whopper of a cold and cough. I held out half a day, then had chills and a little nausea (both stopped), but my sinuses were/are blocked and I'm coughing with every deep breath. Both ears are blocked. ("What? What?"). This can quickly turn to pneumonia for asthmatic me, so...

Yesterday I became a 'walk in' at our doctor's practice and was started on Levofloxcin 500 MG once a day for two weeks. I hoped for fast, fast, fast relief, but coughed all night and today have two degrees of fever. Just took today's pill and am hoping for a Big Improvement!

Our plane departs ORD Tuesday at 7:30 a.m for DFW -- cab at 5:45 -- and then on to OGG. This is our long-planned Christmas with The Kids on Maui. (Cough, hack, blow.)

DS and family arrived at our condo Thursday afternoon. It was nip and tuck getting the place 'deep cleaned' because the cleaner "forgot" until I asked how it was going on Tuesday. She had a month's notice, but only finished up hours before our 'kids' checked in. (Famous Island Brain Rot.)

Now I'm awaiting word from the plumber about DS's report of finding water seeping up from the floor in one bathroom!

DH has just returned from a hair-raising trip into the city to retrieve DS's sunglasses from his car. Wouldn't you love to drive past multiple malls on the Saturday before Christmas?

Cheer me up! I need some more funny posts like Caroline's 'Up On The Rooftop,Turkey Claws'! Hee-hee! Turkey claws!

Do hope you're feeling better soon and have a wonderful Christmas with the family. Meanwhile, have DH make you a nice hot toddy, curl up and watch some sappy Hallmark movies.

Was just checking some hot toddy recipes on Allrecipes. One reviewer said she made some for two flu stricken guests that were staying with her. It warmed them up and shut them up, too. LOL I don't like whiskey, so I would probably use rum instead!

How could anyone have that much bad luck in such a short amount of time? Aaack!!
I hope you have a wonderful, comforting, relaxing, non sneezing holiday with no uh-ohs at all.

(((((BigMama))))))) Sometimes a good cry relieves stress (it does for me) and then I feel relaxed and tired enough to sleep. Don't get upset further by thinking about your mood swings. Stop beating yourself over the head. Yep, pamper yourself. Fluff up, sprinkle some nice stuff on, put on some colours and do something nice for yourself today. You are doing great. Keep talking to us. We are here for you. Housebound at this time of year is hard enough. It's okay to feel cranky too - geez - your body is trying to rid itself of toxins...if ya wanna beat something up ask DH if he wants to have a pillow fight, Take a pop can for a walk - literally - kick one around the block and back again before putting it in the trash. I don't know what it is like where you live, can you get out and do something different? Play tourist - go to a museum, an exhibit or even your library. Pick a topic and do some research - get your mind on something else. Anything you wanted to do this summer that maybe you could focus on now? Do you have a room in your house that you could spruce up? Maybe hang some new curtains, paint some furniture bright colours, decorate a mirror...find something in a second hand store that you could redo, spruce up and put to use? Paint your toenails different colours - for no reason except to make you laugh. Hug yourself. You are a great person and are doing well. Yack some more to us. Anything in your closets that could be yanked out and recycled? Do you sew? Do crafts? Grab a t-shirt and decorate it. Get busy. Then when you feel physically tired, take a nice warm bath, relax and you might sleep a little better. Anyone else have any ideas? McPeg

Vickey, when you are in bed, keep a small throw pillow handy. They should have told you to hold a pillow to your tummy/incision area when you cough or sneeze. Do the same when you roll over. Sounds to me that what you are feeling is normal, as I remember from 11 years ago. I wasn't even allowed in a car, except for the ride home from the hospital, for 10 days. And even then it hurt like crazy. Can't say about the hormones, as I still have the ovaries, sorry. My girlfriend had it all removed a few years ago, and was warned that might happen, tho. But, as socks mentiioned, if you don't think something is right, or you just want reasurance, please call the office. They will be happy to set your mind at ease. They would rather do that, than have something wrong and not be able to tell you, because you didn't call. Sending more healing thoughts. Tami

Saintpfla, I can imagine that with diabetes, the metabolic issues make things different- particularly the constant hunger. As you probably know from experience, our issues are on the end of lack of appetite. I'm curious if your kitty does pretty well during the day otherwise? It is so tough to end up on one of these roller coaster rides. For our kitty we have been doing sub-q's regularly for 3.5 years and have tried various acid reducers as recommended by the vet. Sometimes increasing sub-q frequency helps with the vomiting, sometimes not; we haven't had particular luck with the acid reducers decreasing the vomiting. They have helped settle her stomach to eat at times though. What made her a good eater for a while in her illness was that she would eat competitively with her litter-mate. If she thought the food was out for him, she would gobble it down! He passed away from cancer in January, and her weight has dropped by a couple of pounds since then (from 9 to 7, I think)- greif and no one to compete against. Our vet encouraged us to consider getting another cat to get her to eat a little better, and we had an opportunity to take a kitten of a stray that my mother took in recently. We just got him on Wednesday (he's already been checked and is very healthy and safe for her), so we are hoping this might help her more than anything. I'm surprised at how quickly she's already taken to him after just a couple of days. She is eating better already too. Just a thought if you are interested, but there is a book (I had a copy for years) titled The New Natural Cat. She has some ideas about diabetes in there, particularly in regard to homemade meals that are better for the pancreas. I don't know enough about diabetes to give you much other information, but wonder if your cat would benefit from something like that? I'd bet there are recipes along the same lines on the internet- that is how I found the initial homemade kidney diet our cat ate for a while. FWIW, I've found that the premium carpet and upholstery cleaner that you can buy at Home Depot is great for cleaning up cat puke and is very economical. I mix it in an old carpet cleaner spray bottle (22oz?) and it takes just under 2 ounces of that concentrate to mix up a full bottle. A gallon goes a long way that way. Earlier on we were going broke buying bottles of ready mixed carpet cleaner. Best of luck and thanks for the ideas on our old girl.

I'm so sorry. You have had great trauma, and I don't want to minimize that. However... Try to think small. We actually need very little in this world to get by, sometimes we need to take a step back and just appreciate the little things in life. As far as plants are concerned you could start small, and add plants as they start to thrive. Try to look at the good things in your life like relationships. If we have food, shelter, love in our life, if we strive to be content, then we may find peace. Works for me. Try to think small. Oh I feel your pain! I guess you have to look on the bright side--you are on meds and have Saturday-Sunday-Monday to get the bug moving, so let's hope that by Tuesday morning you'll be better.

I don't know what Levofloxcin is but hope there's a decongestant in there or you are taking one. I'm a big believer in chicken soup too.

Hope everything is ok at the condo by the time you get there, but knowing about "Hawaiian time," things may still be pending. Good think DS went ahead to troubleshoot before you arrive.

Take care, rest, drink fluids, hot shower can help clear the head. Sitting up or raised pillows helps ease head congestion, stay warm. (I just had this bug, still recovering.)

I sure hope you make a quick recovery. You should be feeling better by tomorrow with that antibiotic you are taking. Get plenty of rest these next few days.

Wishing you well! Good move on the quick walk-in Dr. visit. Hopefully catching it early will lessen the duration significantly and keep it from turning into something worse. Hope you have a great trip to Maui with the kids (and a nice long time to rest-up after they head home).

We just arrived in Colorado for the holidays this afternoon. Last night at the hotel on our way out, I started sneezing and a very runny nose. Just a head cold, but I hope that it will run its couse quickly. We will be here for a couple of weeks and I wasn't planning on skiing until after my my Mom goes home after Christmas anyway.

DH is almost 100% and I'm much better this morning. We both slept through the night without hacking and blowing.

Angelaid -- We're less hazardous than most of the population right now, if the talk of wide-spread flu is true. DH is far past the contagious stage, and I'm full of antibiotics.

Talking with my DIL yesterday, SHE was sick for two days before they departed on Thursday. She holed up in the bedroom and forbade the kids to come near her. She was really thinking DH and the kids would be on that plane without her, but the 'whatever' passed and she's fine now.

I've said how much our DGS (nearly 10) has been longing to visit Maui for *ages* -- held up by his sister's arrival when he was six. He is a sweet boy, and has borne it all with patience. He finally got to the beach Friday afternoon to try out some body-boarding in the ocean. He had to be dragged out out of the water at sunset, exclaiming, "This is the best day of my LIFE!"

Aw...

He and DS are off to Honolulu today to visit Pearl Harbor for the day. He wrote a paper on the event for school, and won "Best Report" for his entire grade.
