Oh, Christmas movies... so many of them are wonderful! However, I haven't a favorite one, just some of them that I particularly like since they remind me my childhood, when our family gathered together. The first one is The Bishop's Wife: I remember having watched this movie, lying behind the sofa as I would have been in bed... The second one is a French one (obviously) which in French is called "Santa Claus is a junk" - there has been an American remake that I did not appreciate at all: "Mixed Nuts" with Steve Martin (like this actor!) I think. The third one is Dial Code Santa Claus (also French movie) and the last one that I've probably watched a THOUSAND TIMES is... "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" Chevy Chase is a wonderful actor! I really enjoy watching this movie!!!!

I love watching all kinds of movies over and over and over again... I catch something new, some nuance every time. Like Despicable Me. The girls are on the front porch. The first billion times I just watched and listened to the interaction between Gru and the oldest sister. LOVE it! So childlike, him, and her right reaction to it. One day, I suddenly noticed the . Such a delight! Or, you can stop and notice things like Toy Story toys on the ground in Boo's room in Monster's Inc. Loads of things. Usually, I don't catch it all the first time. Sometimes, I've seen the movie so much, I won't watch it with my eyes, only listen. You'd be surprised how much you don't hear. This post was edited by rob333 on Tue, Sep 9, 14 at 15:32

He who holds the remote is just now discovering the options we have. LOL We have the same model Sony BluRay at home and and on Maui. We have never investigated the various options until we tried the Netflix option yesterday. (Bomb.) We haven't cared because our library at home usually has whatever we are looking for (free) as soon as it's available anywhere. That's not the case here on Maui, and we are staying longer on Maui now. Here we can rent "Shane", "I Was A Male War Bride", etc. We got "Black Swan" from our branch of the Maui library -- one of the few 'recent' movies. We are also able to use our cable HD-DVR and watch recorded PBS programs at teatime. Our BluRay boxes date from about 2012. This one talks about "2010" options, but I assume that since they still show up on the menu, they are all still currently available. The Sony channel is offering "Truth" -- current movie we just rented from Redbox for $1.50/day. Looked like it was $6 to stream. Please walk me through the Amazon Prime membership as regards streaming movies. I see Amazon has at least one TV series we have been waiting to see: Season Three of "The Americans". It looks like it is $6 per episode. (Our library at home has this now, but we're not there, we're here!) We usually split a movie over two days of teatime. If we chose "The Americans" Episode One of Season Three, and had an Amazon Prime membership, how long would we have access to that episode? Could we *stop* and *resume*? (With Redbox, we just pay for two days, as time stops at midnight of the day you rent.) What's the cost to have Prime? (I very seldom buy anything online, so never looked into this -- certainly not for Hawaii, where shipping is a week, not days.) Thanks for helping guide two Seniors into the 21st Century.

Just watched Hidden Figures and loved it! I didn't find it dreary at all? I do like the space race and I was really profoundly moved visiting the Kennedy Space Center a few years ago. My niece and I watch "Miracle On 34th St" and "A Christmas Story" every yr. I recorded them from TV back in the 90s, she's 15 and loves to see the old commercials.

I absolutely must watch Elf every year. Bob Newhart cracks me up even if he's simply standing still! I love him.

Of course, it's not "Christmas" unless I've re-watched...

- Every version of A Christmas Carol ever made. I have five versions and may add another soon.

- Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,

- and first and foremost, A Christmas Story.

I think I need a Leg Lamp for the breakfast table in the south window. Everyone could enjoy it!

I agree with you totally, Kat, Holiday Inn, and White Christmas are absolute musts-sees to start the season. I usually watch one of them on the night of Thanksgiving.

I love White Christmas.

A fairly new favorite for me is The Family Stone. (Sarah Jessica Parker and a host of others). I also really enjoy Last Holiday with Queen Latifah.
Honestly I can't pass up Christmas Vacation and Elf (laugh out loud funny every single time I watch)

I like White Christmas, Holiday Inn, Little Women with Susan Sarandon, Noel, also with Susan Sarandon.. it's sad but I still like it. So many I like it's hard to choose. I have both Mrs. Miracles because I love Doris Roberts.
I did not watch Christmas Shoes or Christmas Blessing this year.

I've been watching the funny ones too. Christmas vacation, Christmas with the Kranks, both Home Alones, Elf, Fred Clause. I plan to watch Christmas Carol with G.C. Scott tonight. Salgal, I do like The Family Stone too..thanks for reminding me.

Love the old ones, too. I just cannot get into some of the more recent ones, where the child just wants a parent for their mom/dad. Just so darned predictable. Of course, the others are, too, but they are more watchable, also.

I love looking at all those wonderful old movies..returning to a more civilized society for the most part.Not perfect but,better than what we have today. IMHO of course.
