retinal spot update... and on the way to see oncologist

I saw the eye specialist on the 26th of November. There were no changes in size or looks of the thing on my retina.

This is a regular visit with my oncologist. 3 months since the last one. But I'm nervous. I have had a headache for well over a week and it won't go away. I was watching the morning news one day and on this laptop (of course! lol) and I lost the vison in the upper third of my left eye. It was black with ragged edges, then I got a pain in my head, the headache hasn't left. My vision went back to normal in a few seconds. I wonder if I was getting a headache and it just showed the damage that was already done to my retina... or if something else happened to the retina causing the headache. Or if they have nothing to do with each other. I had that loss of vision once this summer, when I was bending over and had my head upside down, and it was after last eye exam. I'm hoping just the pressure from the ultrasound is causing that to do something...

on a good note, i've lost 21 pounds on Weight watchers... nothing last week, and not much this week it appears. Haven't been able to exercise since I injured my back. But with physical therapy, that is almost all better now!

Congrats on the weight loss! The eye problems sound scary.. hope it is nothing serious. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!

Wrapping this one up. Thanks again for the help and for making my first posting experience so pleasant. I had a Eureka moment today. I checked my hunch against pictures at CactiGuide. You've seen the huascha I thought was the candicans. Now here's the candicans I thought was the huascha. As I recollect the nurseryman didn't have either labeled and, well, leave it to me. I confused them. Tjeiken, I'm glad I didn't wait until third day to photograph the huascha flowers! They were beautiful while they lasted. Norma, thanks for your good counsel. I hope you have a riot of color from your Echinopsis buds. Linda, thanks for comment. Today as I tossed my trash, I noticed neighbor had some nice Opuntia flowers across the fence. Couldn't resist snapping a pic (below).

Hey esox, thx for chiming in, all feedback is welcome and gives me more ideas to brainstorm. The middle plants were getting the same sun, and at that point probably a similar amount of circulation since there was still space between the plants. I caught it this year earlier and before all the canopies connected, like they are now. It may be perception but it seems like the infection can cross a air-span of 6 inches to a foot (wind/rain), unless i'm wrong and it was being pulled in from the roots in those instances. I'm suspecting that there was either an infected spot there in the soil, or those plants were infected right from seed and waited for hot/rainy stressful weather to overcome the plant's immune system. It could also be dragged in via pants and shoes and maybe last years gardening tools unfortunately ( i don't recall disinfecting everything from last year). The stuff is pretty contagious from what i've been reading and experiencing.

The nickname 'Sphinx Moth' comes from the family name, Sphingidae. If you research the family as a whole, I think you'll be amazed at the diversity within this large and interesting family of moths. Most, not all, Sphinx caterpillars bear little horns on their posterior. Your pictures are so great; I especially liked the one in the other thread that showed the moth in the process of struggling out of its pupa.

Nick, my favorite mezzo in trouser roles was (the late) Tatyana Troyanos, an American with the origin from your beautiful country. Carol, I don't know how far back early music you like, but in opera I think someone like Cavalli might fit the bill and this performance by a fab French countertenor Damaux is as good as it gets, I think. Seeing him at the Met's Giulio Cesare a couple of years ago made me a (albeit, somewhat reluctant) convert to countertenors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWWsHP7OooM One day, I hope we might have a thread about roses and classical music/opera. In my garden, I have a little "Richard Strauss corner" recreating flowers from his last song including a rose, though, like you, I prefer Italian (Verdi!).

I had a dream visit from my daughter Jill two nights ago, the first in a long time. She said to me, "Don't worry." I guess that's the best advice I can give you, too, Kat. I hope the doctor gives you some welcome reassurance.

Hi. He said what I thought he'd say. "Call the eye specialist!" lol So I need to do that tomorrow and let
them know of what happened with my vision. Doc says just to
let him know if my headache doesn't go away pretty soon.

I have no tumor markers in my blood. They only way we can tell if my cancer has chosen to grow again is with
pet scan or cat scan. So, he just runs a bunch of blood tests. My liver, and kidney are normal. My white blood
cell count is low.. that's too be expected. My nutraphils .. some are low, some or high, but the total nutraphil (sp) is normal. He scheduled me for April.

I lost most of the vision in my eye when I had a retina detachment. It was like looking through a slit. The majority was just black nothing...

A second retina detachment (in the other eye) a few months later I only had flashes like lightning. Both times I had to have a surgical procedure called a vitrectomy done in the hospital. Not fun, but both eyes are fine now...which is 20 years later.
