Lisa, you can rely on the info my friends have given you re: books, etc. They are well-read gardeners. I just want to put in a plug for North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service. Your son should acquaint himself with the Orange County office and also rely on the county horticultural agent and Master Gardener Volunteer Program there. This is a free program for county residents. Your son can call them for expert advice on home gardening in his new area whenever a question arises. MGV's and horticultural agents will also make housecalls if the situation demands. Yes, Niche Gardens is a wonderful, helpful place and lovely to look at. Also, Camellia Forest is in Chapel Hill when your son get a hankering of one of those gorgeous camellias john insists he have. peace, claire in sanford

What an awesome, proud Nana you are, Jan!!! I got to see my grandbaby during the first week of Dec. They went to Venezuela for Christmas and New Years to see Manuel's family. They are supposed to be here for our "late Christmas and my birthday" sometime later this month. I am a long ways from being a great grandma, but it is really nice to see Serenna interact with Mom. She is the first Greatgrandbaby to be close enough for Mom to get to see often and watch grow up. Serenna is her 13th. great grandbaby, so I am so glad that Schlumberger decided to transfer Manuel to Sugar Land, TX so not only am I closer, but Mom actually gets to see her more than once a year, as it seems all the other ones are so far away, that's about all she gets to see them, if even that often. So, my Christmas with my grandbaby will be later this month, but that's OK with me as I am glad that she is getting to see her Grandma and Great Grandma on Manuel's side, and I can't wait for my hug again!!! Those are sooooooooooo cute!! I made my GGS a receiving blanket and burp pads out of that same one with the sheep.Didn't make them any clothes this year,so i guess i'll have to make up for that,you've got me inspired again.TFS Kathi

I would get tickets to something. Dh and I learned we really like plays and musicals a few years back. We went to the Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals "Phantom of the Opera" and "Wicked" and absolutely loved them. We've taken the kids to "A Christmas Carol", "Wizard of Oz", and a few other productions. They loved those. If he's more into bands, you could get tickets to that. Likewise, you could do some sort of ball game. You could do professional, sports, or something like the Harlem Globetrotters. They are always fun. Something else fun is just to have a road trip adventure. My crew loves to watch the Travel Channel with all of the food shows. Pick a unique restaurant or dive an hour or two away and drive there for lunch or dinner. Enjoy some local scenery or go window shopping.
