Raven - can you help?

Posted in the computer forum, too, but this one moves much faster and I need help:

Got a new computer. Trying to re-install Microsoft Picture It 2000. Won't install because it can't find Explorer 5. Can I download an old version of Explorer 5, install the software and uninstall 5? Do I have to uninstall the Explorer 11 that is installed now? I'm tearing my hair out here. I have client's coming in to pick up 50 exhibits today that I can't scan without Picture It!

And, for anyone, what photo software do you use to scan and save pictures? I've tried Adobe Acrobat, Windows Scan, my scanner software and "photo gallery" that's on the new computer. All scan the picture into the top corner of the page and the rest of the 8.5x11 page is blank. I can't seem to edit to get "just" the photo and not all that blank space. In Picture It, after scanning there is a box you can move and adjust to save just the photo, not a whole page with a picture in one corner. Did that make sense? I'm so frazzled right now...

You can not put an old version like 5 of IE on your pc it is extremely dangerous and I really don't think it would allow it.

What you need to do instead is go to the website for the product and find the new updates for it so it works with windows 8 if that is what your new pc is. Software manufactures put out new drivers and updates so that their products can be compatible with the new versions of windows.
How old is the version of Picture it? it is from 2000? what version of picture it is it number wise 7? etc

you can try to run in compatibility mode on your windows to see if it will let you do it.

check there to see what it says about the compatibility of it with windows 8

on the 8 forums site I found this comment so you may have luck with compatibility mode
"I have just installed Picture It! 2000 on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. I used compatibility mode for installation, and the program seems to need to run as administrator (just right click on the icon and select 'Run as Administrator'). Very smooth.
I really like Windows 8. It seems to run lots of old hardware and software.

you are very welcome Pam glad that helped. One thing your husband may want to try, this is what I do and like it, I create folders on the bar directly above the tabs which is the bookmarks toolbar, in those folders I put say my daily faves the ones I go to first every day, then all I have to do is right click that folder and hit open all in tabs and voila there they all are. I do a folder for my emails too since I have a few and can open all them at once the same way. I love the bookmarks tool bar, if you choose not to put them in folders you can simply drag any website you are currently on to the bookmarks tool bar by grabbing it's icon in the url bar and just drag it to that toolbar and it will stick, to change the name right click on the icon choose properties and you can make changes. to create the folder on the bar right click a clear space click new folder the box comes up to name it, then to put your faves in there just go to the website and drag it in or right click on the folder and select add bookmark here.

Thanks, Raven. Yes, everyone is wonderful and BUSY. I just finished up my last assignment with Corrine. Funmoods.com infection is not for the most computer owners. Corrine hung in there. I bet she has never had a case she couldn't solve. Grandms came over and gave support too. It is a great place. Yes, One must be patient and that may mean they may give you an assignment and not get back to you until the next day. Thus, when my computer was in a fragile state and the volunteers had left I did panic and I understand why. I had no idea when they were coming back or if my computer was doomed. Then it rebooted during the night. Hard to calm down. Now that I have been there done that as grandms said to me I am passing on this info. Corrine was working with many people.It's gotta be a nerve wracking volunteer job. I am greatful though, very greatful.

Thanks for the information, Raven. I access at the library, and when the library address shows up, I just click on it and type in "www.yahoo.com" and it takes me to "Yahoo", then I click on the email symbol. The one address is the username that I chose, and ".com", as I got it a long time ago, but the more recent one has my chosen username, then ".ca", as I'm in Canada. I set up a gmail address a long time ago, at my son's suggestion ... but not long after that forgot my password (being rather forgetful, even back then), so it's been sitting unused for years. ole joyful
