Watching t.v. this morning and saw this advertised. http://paintingwithatwist.com/
Looks like a fun thing to do and the price is afforadable. I have always wanted to paint but have absolutely no talent for it. Dang, for the price of the class you probably couldn't find a painting that cheap. Anyone else heard of or think this would be fun? Oh by the way, I am not in any way trying to advertise for them, just wanted to get info on it.

yes, there is one in Tacoma that I want to do. it seems like so much fun! I believe the one in Tacoma is Uncorked Canvas. Something like that. i found it via groupon . They were offering an evening of painting and food nibbles! sounds good. I WILL be doing it. I guess I might have to wait til after Christmas. As I was the boat I wanted to paint was offered at the end of november.. I hope they do it again in January!

In November, i took a glass bead making class. Awesome!

They're doing a Santa one tonight and seeing as how my birthday is Sunday, sounds like a good treat for me!! Here comes Santa Claus...

As much as I would love to believe you I am certain you are mistaken. I hope you took pictures. Goose neck gourds and ornamental gourd are completely different species and can't cross pollinate let alone be on the same vine. I'd believe you had 3 or 4 vines in the same spot that may have looked like one vine just because they were close to each other. That would be really cool if it was true! You can only get one type of gourd per vine. Though the first gourd on the vine can sometimes be a different color (i.e. solid green instead of bicolor) but still the same size and shape.

This evening I'm having my first cup of herb tea from the dried leaves. As I related elsewhere, I had quite a few of these plants so was able to put about 6 to 10 of each into the garden. Some really got ahead of me in running to seed but I was able to harvest what amounts to one lunch bag of dry leaves off each of the sweet fennel, catnip, anise hyssop, and Korean mint. I didn't care for the wild bergamot - too medicinal. And, the lemon balm isn't to my liking, tastes like lemon Pledge smells. I should have known this since it has grown in my yard for the last 10 years. I haven't destroyed any of these and am looking forward to trying the wild bergamot flowers since that was the part suggested to me for tea use. It didn't bloom this year. The sweet fennel leaves are a little less than I'd hoped for flavor-wise. The plants have pretty much gone to seed now but the seeds are not mature so guess that I may lose the opportunity to try the seeds in tea. (Of course, I could stop by a spice rack and pick up a can of fennel seed. ;o) Supplementing this combo is another lunch bag of lemon verbena. I've developed a taste for this herb and certainly prefer it to lemon balm. With only a few of these plants, it was necessary to wait until late September to allow them to grow as large as possible before harvesting. The lemon verbena will need to spend the Winter on the floor of the greenhouse again. She is Brittney Spears' sister. Very pretty cake. My sister's MIL made wedding cakes. She made her son a chocolate grooms cake. Did you ever see the movie Steel Magnolias? In the wedding scene there's a red velvet covered with brown icing armadillo grooms cake. lol (That looks like an autopsy)

After hearing all the history of this piece, I am even move excited to get it :-) You guys have described the desk perfectly. It sounds like it is made of a good solid wood, too. The owner told me last night she had her sewing machine sitting on it and really had a hard time deciding whether to sell it or not. I've arranged to go look at it Friday evening. It is about a 2 hour drive each way, and it will be a nice drive if my kids don't fight in the car too much, LOL!. If the ochre color doesn't work out, I'm warming up to the idea of a red. I had a lot of brown's and wood tones already going on in that area. In the kitchen (which is right next to this area) my back splash is a terracotta color, so a blue red won't work, but something more on the orange side, might. I won't be in a big hurry to change the color, but I'll be back to let you guys tell me what you think. I do want to thank newhomebuilder for all her great CL finds. It is her area CL that I found this piece. The owner of the desk lives in a very historic part of the state and I wish I had time to spend in her town. She described a lot of fun things to see and plenty of antique stores to visit, too. Nothing is ever good on my area CL listings.

I went to "Merlot 2 Masterpiece" here in Houston with a group of girlfriends 6-8 weeks ago! It was quite a bit of fun, and we all purchased groupon's so we went for half price. To be honest, I just threw my painting out because it did not look very good. One of my friends had been 4 other times, and she commented on the lack of quality this time...instructor error, so to speak! Go ahead and try it. It was a very nice way to spend a Friday night. BTW, before we scheduled, we were able to opt what painting we wanted to complete. The whole class paints the same thing, so we picked our painting choice 1st, and then scheduled on a day the studio was painting our choice of picture.

oh, no Houstonmom ! I can understand not being happy with your painting, but I would have painted over it. In gesso... white! And tried again! Or maybe even decoupage! lol

kat_wa...I never thought of that! My DH & kids (early 20's) all said it was good, but there was nowhere in my house I would have hung it. The colors were not a good match for my house, either. It was a painting of nighttime showing a New Orleans cobblestone path leading to a bar with a neon sign pointing to the bar's door. I told my DH that throwing out this one will motivate me to go again another time, but I'll pick out something else to paint!

Lizzann_Ar - the girl in my group that had great results with all her previous paintings had gone to Painting with a Twist at least 2 of her prior times. Good luck, and I think you'll enjoy yourself!

Well, I may not get to go tonight but hopefully will get to go sometime this month to do the santa or snowman even. Kat, it will only be posted if it is post worthy, lol. Houstonmom, can you tell me how you found it half price on Groupon, I'm all about something being half price.

Now you made melook. We have a place in Tulsa called Pinot's Palette. They have some cool ones that are sold out. I've been talking about taking some of my neighbor's and going. I may see if dd could go with me first. It looks like fun.
