Arm Knitting

For those of you that knit have you seen the arm knitted infinity scarves or made one? I made one day before yesterday and it literally took less then an hour. I think if I made a second one it would take less time, now that I have the hang of it. You need 2 skeins of super chunky yarn, I think it is 6 ounce yarn and you hold two strands of yarn , one from each skein to make the scarf. I think it could even be done by someone that doesn't knit. Here is a link how to make it on UTube. I watched several video's and this girl has simple instructions and was easy to follow. Thought maybe someone here might need a quick, easy and nice Christmas gift idea to make.

Thanks for the information. I am not a knitter but I think maybe I can do this. I'm certainly going to try.

I started taking knitting classes~~well, I paid for 4 and have taken 2~~the guy I do it with works at the shop and seems too busy to help me, I think it is because of the holidays and gals are really flooding the shop to buy their yarn. So am waiting till the holiday is over and start again.

But, I saw gals making the infinity scarf there. They do it with this yarn that is as light as a feather, with a bit of sparkle in it, lots of texture. And they do it on circle needles? I really do want to try it.

The ones you are making are beautiful and much warmer for the cold weather, the ones they are making are for looks, more dressy. It is the circle needles that amaze me me.

I believe the first sweater I made I had to sew up....that was in the ice age....and I then found Elizabeth Zimmermann ...After many years of her sweaters I switched to THE SWEATER WORKSHOP, which I love. But, it's always fun to try something different, and it looks simple enough (with the help of a friend, to fit the sleeve hole to fit me). If you don't like to sew together, and haven't tried THE SWEATER WORKSHOP, I'd sure recommend it...in fact, I had to buy a second copy...the original one was falling apart!

Well, I have been home from work for 3 days now. I had hoped to go in tomorrow, but who am I kidding? The cast they have me in is not a full cast, but rather a sort of trough, but it goes from just below my shoulder all the way to my knuckles. My job entails a huge amount of time at the keyboard and the only thing I can do with my left hand is to lay the outside of my ring finger on the keyboard to hold down the shift or tab key when appropriate. I'd say that cuts my speed by at least 80%, not to mention that even that hurts the muscles in that arm. I can't believe how long the days are with nothing much to do. I've watched lots of television and done some reading. I was a bad girl and decided to try knitting. I managed to get a couple of rows done on a sock using the throwing method, but DH caught me and gave me a little lecture about possibly doing some permanent damage. But I was done after those couple of row, it just hurt too much. I can't take a shower and even a bath is difficult. The short time that have to hold the arm up to wash my underarms and chest area just about makes me cry. On the other hand, I don't have to do any dishes, and DH is doing all of the cooking (I get to help with menu planning and technical advice). I have an appointment on Monday with Orthopedics and I'll let you know how that goes. It looks like I will miss one entire paycheck, which is going to make things even tighter than usual. I'm hopeful that I'll be compensated for lost wages, but I suspect it will be some time before that happens.

I was trying to be tongue in cheek when I said that, but I'm glad you posted the pictures of the challah before it's baked. It's funny someone said it looked like a pupa, I was kind of thinking of the worms from Dune, but I wasn't sure how many people actually have read Dune. lol Ah, Mothra and Godzilla, they just don't make scary movies like they used to. firewife, thank you so much for posting. Had never seen this before and I have been knitting well over 50 years. I am left handed and this is using both hands and very easy. Perfect timing for you to post, this morning I had gone into my yarn stash looking for a project. Even the folks that don't knit could give this a "hand". Perfect gift and easy and quick. This is also a good idea for my grands to learn.

Yes even if you don't knit I truly believe you could make this scarf. Just make sure to use the bathroom first!....also, this is such a big loopy scarf it's hard to weave the ends in and have them stay. What I would suggest is tying the ends off then putting a dab of clear fabric glue on to make sure the knot doesn't unravel. Here is the one I made, it is so soft and comfy....

fantastic saving the instructions I'll never do it I'd have to have my cell phone nearby to call for help I'm afraid. How clever is this thanks

Many Thanks.... I had been trying to remember how to do that, as that is how I learned to 'cast on' my first row of stitches. I was feeling so dumb, not being able to remember.

My 12 year old granddaughter is very talented in "arty" things. I'm going to show her this at Christmas, she lives 4 hours away, and see if she is interested in making one. I have a skein of yarn that will work for this. Thanks for sharing.

I find it much more relaxing to knit with needles as I watch a favorite tv show.
