Striploin roast?

A little while ago, we recommended hubby's ophthalmologist to our friend who has a special needs daughter. He successfully performed the cataract surgery that she needed (when no one else would touch her).
Her life has changed dramatically for the better and our friend gave us a $50 gift card to our local grocery store. We're thrilled and I'd like to use it for something that we don't normally buy.
I'd love to make a roast slow-roasted with a blast of heat at the end.
The store has striploin roasts on for $5.89. Would this be a good roast to cook this way? Similar cooking for a prime rib, but I don't want a prime rib.
