Tana French's Boarding School Mystery

I've just finished this long, intense book, set in a present day girls' boarding school in Ireland. I'm exhausted from it.

Every female can remember the nastiness and vulnerability of middle school girls. I wonder why I never realized how exhausting it would be to live inside a defending hive of female adolescents 24 hours a day for weeks on end?

The conformity. The pettiness. The need to project a hard shell. The need to be 'in'. The fear of falling 'out'. The need to identify enemies and build supporters. The fear and power of sexuality -- and chaste love. The forced separation of males and females, and the resultant stereotyping.

Maybe Rapunzel was lucky.

There is a mystery to be solved, but IMO "Who Killed Cock Robin" is secondary.
