Here's the photo journal of my next tasting. Yum! This is so fun! This time the contenders are: Herman, Nam Doc Mai, Champagne, Fairchild, Florida Red, Choc Anon, Tahar, Ott, Edward and for an interesting comparison the first Georgia peach of the season. My ratings are: 1. Edward, 2. Florida Red, 3. Champagne, 4. Georgia Peach, 5. Choc Anon, 6. Fairchild, 7. Ott, 8. Herman, 9. Tahar, 10. Nam Doc Mai My husbands ratings were the same, except he had a tie for first place: the Edward & the Georgia Peach. Edward - not quite as perfectly ripened as the last one, but still excellent. Florida Red - This one was I think about 1 day past perfect ripeness. But it was very juicy, melting and very sweet. Smooth and very flavorful. Champagne - A little more tart that is characteristic, but still very good. Georgia Peach - First of the season, so not yet of perfect ripeness. It had good full flavor, with a pronounced floral note. Both sweet and tart, more tart than a perfectly ripened fruit would be. Choc Anon - I think these were picked too soon, they started wrinkling before getting soft. Still very tasty. Flesh was firm with no fiber. It was tangy, coconutty and had a slight pineapple taste. Apparently forgot to take a pic of the inside of this one. Fairchild - This one ripened most perfectly of the 3 fairchilds I bought. It was firm and buttery to cut through, but the flesh to pit ratio is pretty poor, and this was the largest fairchild of the 3. It was mild flavored, and pleasant with a slight pine flavor near the skin (which was not bad tasting). I am however a bit underwhelmed by the fairchilds overall. They are good, but I expected from descriptions for them to be outstanding. How do others feel about them? Maybe I got less than optimal fruits? Ott - This had firm flesh and was sweet and mild. The flavor was smooth and simple. It was in fact almost indistinguishable from the Fairchild. Herman - This one got a bit overripe - there was some spoilage by the pit. It had a medium amount of fiber. It was flavorful and sweet, but had an earthy undertone I didn't like. Although that could have been due to the overripeness. Tahar - This one also was a bit overripe. It was a bit stringy with a coconutty flavor. Nam Doc Mai - Once again, this one rated last. This fruit was slightly better than the last one. The flesh is so silky smooth, I really wanted it to taste awesome. It was slightly sweeter than the last one I tried but still had an off earthy undertone to it that I didn't like. Forgot to take an inside picture of this one too.

Thanks for the kind comments to those that were kindly commenting. John and Robert: Yes, my Abius are seedlings from PIN. One I think is a seedling of the cultivar "Gray"...however, I think that the "Gray" seedling is the tree that has never fruited to maturity. This was the first year I even noticed small pea sized fruits forming......but they all turned black and dropped. The conventional wisdom is that the average seed to fruit time period is 4-8 years. I think from my experience that the latter time is closer to most likely fruiting time. Mango Doc and John: This grape is supposedly a Burgundy Bunch grape...not that I know any difference between them once I get beyond the skin color and whether they are seedless or not. These grapes are prolific here in Florida, as you can see. They do have seeds and are small. So there isn't a lot of flesh in each grape to enjoy, but what is there is sweet and delicious. You just have to get by either swallowing or spitting the seeds and getting a low flesh to fruit ratio...something I am not very fond of. I could send cuttings if you are interested. Jacob: You can have Genova red budwood. It is best to send in early spring, just before the tree breaks dormancy. Remind me around then and I'll send you some. Sorry, I haven't put the layers on the E daw longan as of yet. I usually wait until fruiting season is over. So, if I have the chance, I'll be putting some on in the next month or so. Andrew: Good to hear about your Maha mango. Sorry to hear about your back issues. Yeah, I've been feasting on cherries from Costco. They have been particularly good this year. New Gen: That sugar apple is about 15 years old but it was uprooted and cut to a stump after Hurrican Wilma almost 6 years ago. So what you see represents 6 years growth. Tony: I tried an Ivory mango and I am going to do another thread on that subject where I'll compare the growth habit of Tog Bi Con and Ivory. Harry

This is a very accurate lost of Thai mango's, thanks for that. I have seen all of them on the markets and eaten most. Now there are many new mangovariety's grown in Thailand, they were developed in Taiwan. I ate one of those (jakrapat=Yu wen) and it was great. A huge red sweet fibreless mango. Mango's like Raed or Thong dum are old variety's but still liked by the locals. They are much cheaper then namdocmai though. The sweetest one is namdocmai si keo, looks more green then the golden namdocmai. I still wonder why the golden is sold the most in Thailand but maybe because they all like gold. All those new taiwanese mango's are being tested now in Thailand and some big farms allready planted them.If they are all as good as the yu-wen then i guess they will be exported soon as being huge perfect mango's in red color. So far only mahachanok is a pink/red blushed mango in thailand but that will change soon. Mahachanok doesn't even come close to the taiwanese variety's tastewise and is smaller.

YET :) I am happy! I just figure it out, how to put the picture here not the link. Mangokush here is more detail... About the mangos Location, my patio it is a good size so over there will not be a problem because I think I can fit lots of pots(around the pool) but as far as land goes I just have little strip to the side of the house but as you see is half sun/half shade but half is the shade, the other side about 12' is the neighbors property. Seems like more tall more will likely to get sun but I am not sure what exactly what tree will be best there because is kind of always wet there too and I also (maybe one day)like to have not only mangos but also these: Jaboticaba, guava, sugar apple, persimmon,fig, banana, papaya. :) See I want slowly slowly to have a fruit salad! so I need to be careful about what exactly I should leave this little land strip for, before I go all crazy investing in trees that I will not have the proper place for it or will never fruit. Well basically I guess I need to decide what to put in post and what I should put in this space here in the picture below. In this space I can cut the big one and I would also fit one more here. The palm you see is the neighbors so I can't cut down . lol. Decisions, decisions!!!
