Anyone else getting GW - Best Holiday Cookies photo?

Am I the only one getting this?

Every time I click on a topic I get a photo of some kind of Christmas chocolate cookie balls and the heading which reads-

More on GW - the Best Holiday Cookies.
Santa won't be able to resist these.

I have Mozilla and AdBlock Plus.

Anyone else?

Pretty good job Rosemarie. You can use actions in programs like Photoshop, and Photoshop Elements (very bare bones version of Photoshop) and Paint Shop Pro. My dad's Dell came with PSP and I know some computers and cameras come with Photoshop Elements bundled with it. Look around in your computer or your house and see if you ever got one of those for free. BTW you're welcome...I'm glad you were able to learn something. I can't tell you what the plants are in your pics, but maybe I can help with the pictures. ;-) jadegarden, The reason that the pics may have been blurry is because of the PB resizing. When you resize an image it loses sharpness. Which is why I recommend to sharpen your image once you resize it. If you allow for the image host to resize your pics you lose control over how clear they are. sjv78736, Check out the link below...if it isn't clear or a little complicated I will go ahead and do a shorter tutorial of it. I have never read or posted in this section of GW, but the link for Holiday Cookie Recipes appeared at the top of a page I do frequent, and the idea was just too tempting to bypass. Let me preface by saying that I am not the cook in our family. That distinction belongs to my husband, who missed his calling in life... he could have been a famous and well loved chef. So, he generally cooks, and I generally get clean-up duty. :-) Due to health issues we cook almost exclusively from scratch, pouring over product labels to ensure only pure, organic, natural, unprocessed and healthy ingredients are used. If we must, we order products and have them shipped. For example, if a recipe calls for vegetable oil, we would use cold pressed coconut oil instead. Sugars are kept to a minimum, are organic when used, or we substitute raw organic honey. Flour is unbleached and organic. I want to thank you all for sharing your recipes, several of which I've copied and plan to try this season. They all sound and/or look amazing, but my expertise extends as far as simple drop cookies, so that's where I usually concentrate my efforts. Decades ago, my Mother gifted me with a set of recipes from Mary Masters - My Great Recipes. Perhaps some of you have heard of them. My all-time favorite drop cookie recipes from the set are: Haymarket Chocolate Chip Cookies These are thin and crispy chocolate chip cookies that are often found in cookie shops. The edges are browned and crisp but the centers remain pale. * ½ cup soft butter or margarine (must be room temperature) * ½ cup sugar * 1 egg * 1 tsp vanilla extract * ½ cup sifted all-purpose flour * ¼ tsp salt * 1/3 cup chocolate chips * 1/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts Cream butter and sugar until light. Add egg and beat until creamy. Stir in vanilla, flour and salt until a smooth batter forms. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Line cookie sheets with foil and grease lightly. Drop batter with a teaspoon, well apart on the baking sheets (they will spread out while baking) Bake at 350F for 7-10 minutes until edges are golden and centers are set. They will be soft when hot so remove immediately from baking sheet and cool on racks. They will become crispy as they cool. Makes 24-30 cookies. (Rack placement depends on how your oven cooks... I place mine centered to avoid uneven browning on bottom or top, and I turn the cookie sheets halfway through to obtain even cooking.) Oatmeal Lace Cookies 1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 large egg 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups quick cooking or rolled oats (not instant) 1 tbsp all purpose flour 1/4 tsp salt Preheat oven to 325F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a small bowl, melt the butter and allow to cool slightly, for 2-3 minutes. In a large bowl, whisk together sugars, egg and vanilla extract. Pour in the cooled, melted butter and whisk to combine. Add in oats, flour and salt, and stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until well combined. Allow batter to stand for 5 minutes. Scoop 1 teaspoon sized balls of dough and place onto prepared baking sheet, leaving about 3 inches between cookies to allow room to spread. Bake for 14-16 minutes, or until crisp and golden. Allow cookies to cool for 4-5 minutes on the baking sheet to give them time to firm up, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. (I usually put both types of cookies in a container the moment they are cool to help retain a little chewiness in the centers, though the edges will be deliciously crispy. And again, ensure your oven racks are placed for even baking.) Tips: Not only do I allow the butter to come to room temperature before using, I also take the eggs out of the fridge at the same time. All ovens differ, so oven rack placement and turning the cookie sheets halfway through the bake help ensure an evenly baked cookie without burnt bottoms, or a partial sheet darker than the others. I just gave up...... After having a Gardenweb account since forever, since back when it was an offshoot of the "Parent Soup" channel thing at AOL.back in the mid-late 1990's and was still doing the same thing at the various changes and new corporate whatevers and never had an issue before or after changing my email address to Gmail in April 2004. I finally just entered a new account name at the same exact email address I have maintained since April 2004 and seemingly have either no "old" account or the new account has no conflict with the old. The old just not being able to "sign in". I have been doing this sort of thing since 1990 before even AOL back when "online" was a BBS running off of a hot rod 2400 Baud modem plug in card on an Apple IIE. I have never been one tobe concerned with site appearances, but the Huuzz scheme fonts colors layout everything, is absolutely horrendous. Just my $.02 worth..... YMMV

justwantapool-I make the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey kisses. It's the only one I cheat on and use the Betty Crocker cookie mix for. I find the full size kisses too large for the cookies so last year I used the Brach's chocolate stars. I think they're just the right size and the star shape is pretty on the cookie as well. I noticed this year that Ghirardelli also makes a drop that they say is specifically for that type of cookie. They call them Thumbprint Drops. Miss lindsey-I make the raspberry thumbprints as well but this year, I got a fig orange jam to try in mine. I love figs in cookies so I thought I would give it a try.

Me, too, on a couple of other forums that I frequent, even though I have Adblock Plus. I haven't been on GW for a while, so I came looking for help in KT. The picture looks as if it's inserted after the OP, just as any other post would be ... sneaky. :[

Extremely annoying. I also use Firefox and Adblock Plus. If you click on the picture it takes you to a thread on the Cooking Forum. Very weird, especially if you have no interest in cooking. I wonder if it shows up on forums like Grieving? Rude.

None here and I use IE, but noticed across the bottom of the screen that IE had blocked a pop up on GW. Thank you IE.

Another die hard IE user....also have the other browsers installed, each one has issues. Have no pop ups ever ---here or anywhere else "knock on wood". using IE

After I posted this morning I contacted them and nicely pointed out that we were all fully capable of locating recipes and asked them to remove the annoying photo.

I'm sure they must have received numerous complaints, but to put it on the Grieving Forum wins the double award for inappropriate and tacky.

Thank heaves it's gone.

I had been on the computer earlier today and had no ads off to the right. Got back on a little later and there they were. None on the main thread page, only when I open a thread. I was able to block the images, but not the words. I, too, have the latest FF, with AdBlockPlus and EasyList.

Hmmm I see it now........on the right hand side of the page. I use
AdBlock Plus and it's the first time I've seen any kind of ads on GW. I use Chrome.

Oh! I just remembered. I got a mssge earlier while I was on IE that I used all my free Adblocks today. Free Adblock will block up to 200 ads per day, and I reached my free quota.

That must be why I'm seeing the chocolate cookies.

They are there because they are not ads. They are a feature of GW all of them link back to other GW forums. Probably trying to get more traffic on some of those forums, they may not be as active. None are selling anything.
Adblock can only block ad content.
I just started seeing them on my desktop but was seeing them before on my tablets.

Actually it's a great idea to get traffic to other forums. Would there be many people that don't know to go to the top and check out all the forums that GW has to offer?

Did you also see the little box that has the 'recent posts' underneath the pictures? That thing is rather addictive! I didn't realize how many other things were of interest to me. Great...more time sucking. LOL I'm more of a reader than a poster and I find that an hour has passed before I know it.

I'm getting the pictures on the side and love it. Already got some good recipes from the cooking forum. I don't think I would have liked it as a pop-up. Too annoying. Thanks GW.

I don't mind it since it is not jumping around and doing crazy stuff to the page like most ads do.
I know I am not familiar with all the many many forums on GW and at times have only found out about one from someone posting a link or mentioning it here. Since then I have found several others that I enjoy. This idea may breathe new life in some of the forums that don't get a lot of action.

I just checked the retirement forum after it was mentioned here the other day and thought oh that will be a good one to check but unfortunately it is really lacking in recent posting. I thought it would be a really active forum with so many here in that age range.

If you notice these are only on a post page and not on the main GW KT page at least so far.

My hubby got some software (maybe McAffee ? ) that wakes my computer up at 3 am and does a clean up and spam removal,it really works.
