Breakout reality star one of 2012's 'Most Fascinating People'

Seriously?! This is the type of person we idolize now in the great USA?!

We've been on a mission to dumb down America in numerous ways as of late, but to actually include the likes of Honey Boo Boo on this list when there are SO many other TRULY fascinating people who contribute something of value to our society is ghastly!

Walters attributes "the relationship between Honey Boo Boo and her mother" as being the reason for her choice.

Filth-laden, crusty-necked June and her rude, ill-mannered Boo-kid's relationship certainly isn't the Gold standard nor the Godly standard that I would hold up as the admirable accomplishment that mothers and daughters should strive for!

Well according to Merriam-Webster's on line dictionary, fascinating means : extremely interesting or charming : captivating . Imho, seeing/watching HBB is kind of like seeing or watching a train wreck.

These are just her 'pop culture' picks of 'interesting' people. According to Wikipedia, Barbara Walters' 10 Most Fascinating People is a televised compilation of ten public figures who are prominent names in the fields of entertainment, sports, politics and popular culture.

She also names the Most Fascinating Person of the Year. Remember now, this is Pop Culture. She named Jerry Spring (Gag me!) in 1996.

Tiger Woods was on the 2010 list after he fell from grace in 2009.

Many on the list make me want to gag, and I wouldn't cross the street to meet or see them.

2011-The Kardashian family (socialites & reality television stars)
2010-The cast of Jersey Shore (reality television stars)
2009-Glenn Beck (radio and television host)
2009-Lady Gaga (singer)
2008-Rush Limbaugh (radio talk show host)
2007-Don Imus (radio host and writer)

Enough? Imho, many are fascinating, in a very disgusting sort of way.

GrammyMyrna - Couldn't agree more! It just befuddles me why people are "fascinated" with this type of "reality" show. Dumbing down of USA indeed!

I say pot them up a size, and in regular potting soil, Bonnie. Bet itÂll give them a boost. And carefully remove the seed leaves and bury them all the way up to the first set of true leaves. And keep watering them with a dilute water soluble fertilizer. I also recommend putting them out all day any time itÂs up around or above 60, and even a little bit lower if the sunÂs out. The wind and sun will be good for them, and theyÂre gonna be out there on their own before too long anyway. You might keep them in or put them out in filtered sun or bright shade for a couple days right after you pot them up. Most of mine have or are just getting their second set of true leaves, so I really donÂt think youÂre that far behindÂif at all. And one other point! Last year I was looking for a couple more varieties than I had started, so I bought one in a gallon pot, and one in a small pot. Both of the store bought ones were bigger than the ones I started, and it almost looked like my tiny little plants werenÂt worth putting in the ground, but once they were planted, it wasnÂt long at all before they were ALL the same size, and without a scorecard, I really couldnÂt tell which had been which. In my experience, they love getting out into the ground and really take off once they do. And, Ian, all that for you too! I sowed my seed on March 31st, and I just potted them up from the 2' pots they were started in to 3Â½" pots. I mostly potted them up a size so I could bury them deeper to help establish a bigger root system before they go out into my clay! If you think yours look a little too pale, I recommend you start watering with a water soluble fertilizer too. I use 20/20/20Âfor EVERYTHING! For seedlings I usually use it half strength, and if they seem to like that, I make it a little bit stronger. IÂve never used Miracle Grow soilÂor Miracle Grow anything else, but if itÂs forming a crust on top when it drys, get something else. IÂve never used it either, but the Black Gold everybodyÂs talking about sounds good. I use Sunshine mix, since I can get it in bales, but itÂs available in smaller size bags too. ItÂs what everything was planted in at PaulinoÂs, and it always worked well. I use it for starting seeds, rooting cuttings, and everything else. But Digit and David both grow a LOT of stuff, and if they think Black Gold is good, thatÂs good enough for me. Ball mix is a good quality too, but I donÂt think you can usually find it in anything smaller than a bale. Just think, for a minute, about all those YUMMY home grown tomatoes! Skybird

Sueb, I seem to be in the minority with the Is This Tomorrow book. It got pretty good reviews on Goodreads, but I just thought did not like the writing or the story line. I wonder if I missed something! I can't wait to read Me Before You - I read another JoJo Moyes book this summer and while the subject matter didn't sit that well with me (involves an affair), I really liked it. I also loved The Kitchen House, Defending Jacob and Elizabeth Berg books. Looking at your list, it seems we have similar tastes so not sure what it was about that Caroline Leavitt book but though I finished, it wasn't one I'd typically recommend. I just finished about called The History of a Pleasure Seeker. Oh my! I never read that really erotic book (can't think of the name of it but it was all the rage earlier this year tho' didn't interest me) but um, this book was had quite a few erotic sex scenes that I had no idea before I read the book. I thought the book was actually fairly well written for a new writer but the ending was lacking. I have no idea how I happened upon it - I didn't have it on my list of books to read so I think it must have been on display and I grabbed it on a whim. Totally not the genre I typically read but it was a decent read.

Right, chemocurl: It's how you define "fascinating," in this case "gawk-ability," to me. Like you can't help watch what will happen next. (Tho I don't watch this one.)

If you didn't watch CNN Heroes on Sunday with Anderson Cooper, watch it if you get a chance. Those are people who are worth paying attention to and who are worth our admiration.

Honey Boo-Boo - not even in the same room (world)as these people.

I'm not a Barbara walters fan. She'll do anything for ratings. I rarely agree with the picks for her list. I don't have anything against Honey Boo Boo, but wouldn't put her on a top 10 most fascinating list either.

I have lost a lot of respect for Barbara Walters. I used to turn in to the view a couple times a month and she just seems to be headed over the edge. She needs to retire.Whenever something is so celebrity driver as her "Most List" you know what to expect.

I only watched Honey Boo Boo one time to see what it was all about. Appalling, yes, but the kid actually seems very smart. I think she is rather precocious for her age. Too bad her brains are wasted on that ridiculous show. Someone once said the mother looks like a human thumb, and I can see the resemblance.

Who cares about Honey Boo Boo (whom I've read about in the news) or Barbara Walters? Or Jersey Shores or Survivor or any of the "reality" programming? Or the Doctor Phil show or The View or any of the "talking heads?" Or Bill O'Reilly or Anderson Cooper or any of the stuff that "passes" for information or entertainment on the tv? My time is too precious to waste on schlock. Just my humble opinion.
