Sounds good to me, especially if you know a store where they would be interested in shopping.

I know I said I wasn't a fan of gift cards in another post. For this, i would give a $50-100 gift card to a decent to nice restaurant.

I'd give a gift card for sure even if I didn't stay at their house. In my mind, it's family and that's what you gotta do for family.

I don't know your budget so couldn't begin to suggest a value or amount, but I think a gift is appropriate.

I would think if you stayed at their home twice you're on reasonably good terms. I would support my sisters choice whether first, second, or third marriage if that was your question. It's a milestone in her life I would want to acknowledge.

Now that I've said that, I don't remember what I did for my sis's second marriage in 2002. She called and said he'd asked, she'd accepted, and I was stammering I didn't know how I would help her - I had major surgery scheduled for the end of that month. She told me no worry, they were going to elope, Nevada, and go on to Arizona so she could meet his children from his first marriage. That's what they did, had lunch with the children (young adults) and the first wife too ;)

My brother found out where they would be staying and had flowers, wine and fruit basket delivered to their room, for some reason I do remember that.

I would not give a gift card, instead simple cash is fine. A gift card ties the gift to a particular store whereas cash is good everywhere and can be used by the recipient for any purchase they desire including a deposit to their bank account.

To answer your question, I would definitely give a gift for my sister's third marriage -- or any marriage! :)

And your idea of a gift card w/ the wedding card sounds fine to me. That and a bottle of wine or champagne! :)

My sister would get a gift no matter how many marriages!!! I love her dearly and she is my closest confidant on this journey we call life!

Yes, you should formally acknowledge her marriage with a card and whatever gift you think is appropriate. (Cash or gift card is fine.) Will they 'go away' or be 'at home'? *I* would love to receive flowers.

Chisue: Your mention of telegrams makes me smile! One of my most treasured possessions (so much so that I keep them in my safe-deposit box) is the handful of sender's sheets of telegrams my Dad sent people when I was born!

If you give a gift card, instead of for a certain store, you can always give a MC/Visa one good at any store.

My brother's third marriage was greeted with cynical snottiness by my family.

He & his wife have been married now for about 18 or so years.

They still act goofy about each other,
& I'm pretty sure that his wife is the reason my brother is still alive.

I'd get her/them a gift.

Unfortunately my relationship with my sister was damaged, due to the nature of how she and her fiancé got together, and the turmoil it caused for her husband of 16 years and children. However, I still love her with all my heart, and she insisted I stay with them (in order to try and mend fences) when I had to visit their city, so I feel it would be a snub to not acknowledge her happiness about this marriage. I've decided to enclose a gift card in with the wedding card.

Haha, joyful, I guess they would need a garden if I gave them a weeding card, like I posted!
