Anyone schedule USPS to pick up packages?

Whew...what a chore getting the postage printed and all 4 items to print on a scan form.

I had a problem scheduling the pick-up for tomorrow. If I remember correctly I had the same exact problem the last time I scheduled a pick-up. Anyway, when I go to fill in the number of Priority packages to be mailed, there is an existing 0 (zero) in the box. I attempt to delete it and it won't delete. When I type in 4 (four), it types it in front of the zero, making it 40 Priority packages to be picked up. There is just no way, that I can find to get that zero gone out of the box. I went ahead and scheduled it for 40 parcels, and made a note of what happened and that I only had 4 boxes to go out. I asked also that someone report the problem as it has happened before. I'm sure my carrier will know that I don't have 40 boxes for her.

Anyway, is there something that I am maybe missing? Does anyone else successfully schedule pick-up on line?

I even went and read how to Modify/Cancel a pick-up and those directions didn't work either. I could just scream when it does that.

Now get this...before I even finished scheduling the pick-up I was asked if I would complete a survey about my scheduling a pick-up experience.

Welllll.....they asked me how pleased I was, and I explained why I was not pleased and gave them a 1 out of 5. They asked me how pleased I was with the package pick-up. Well, that also got a 1 out of 5 since it has not been picked up yet. When asked if it had been picked up, I replied NO. Was that a trick question, or what? Were they expecting me to lie? So then they wanted to know why I had given them just a 1 out of 5 on the pick-up portion. Silly, silly, silly USPS.
Do they not know what they are doing or what?

I do it every time I sell on eBay and haven't had a problem yet. It's such a great service.

I recommend all traders download this program from the post office. Here is the link to the page: USPS Shipping Assistant Page Here are the reasons: It has a built in address book and as soon as you get the address of your trading partner you can enter it in the address book by using copy and paste. Then save it and when you are ready to send your end of the trade all you need to enter is the weight of the package and by trying the different options you can see which method will be the cheapest and fastest. This software calculates the postage for you, but there is no option to pay for the postage online. You will have to pay the postage the old fashioned way unless you send everything Priority and use the USPS's Click n'Ship online. When you are ready to ship your end you can print the label on your computer's printer and it will have a barcode on it which EXPEDITES your package. The software will calculate your costs and delivery confirmation is included at the .14 cent online rate instead of the .45 you pay at the post office. To make your life even more simple, by being online you can easily schedule a pick-up of your packages from your postal carrier if at least ONE of them is Priority Mail. It is a good idea to stock up on all denominations of stamps by either ordering them online from the USPS or by buying them at the post office. If none of your packages is going by Priority you can still hand them to your carrier or put them in your mailbox to be picked up just like a letter. Warning: I would not take my packages again into the post office to mail as they will weight them and charge you for them WITHOUT the delivery confirmation or CHARGE you extra for the delivery confirmation. It can cause the postal clerks to get all flustered because they may not be used to this. This is caused by a glitch in the USPS. They developed the software without an option to remove DC. The USPS representive I talked to about it said to just pay for it as if it didn't have DC. HOWEVER, it is tracked by the PO as if it HAS the delivery confirmation, so I prefer to pay for what I get even if the PO can't understand or require it which is why I recommend putting your own stamps on or just giving a check to your postal carrier with the packages. NOTE: If you have many packages coming and going it is a good idea to have a good relationship with your mailman/woman. In my case, I live way out in the boonies and do not get into town often so our mail carrier is an important link in life. Back to the software, there is even an option that lets you know exactly the day and minute your package was delivered to your trader. One more thing: Every trader should make a modest investment in a postal scale. If you sign up at stamps.com they will send you one as a free gift for trying them out. Antss, Thanks so much for your response. We are a family of four, me, DH and four-year-old twins. When we remodeled our last kitchen we had a 36" full-depth KA French door fridge, and an extra old fridge in the basement for overflow, which we only needed for holidays. We have always had and will have in the new house a chest freezer in the garage. I was just assuming the loss of refrigerated space from the KA full- depth might be an issue. It looks like we will go from 17.5 cu ft in the KA to 14.3 cu ft in the Thermador. We do cook a lot and we do shop at Costco, but I think we always accumulate stuff in our KA because of the depth. Perhaps the counter depth will keep things from getting lost in the back. I'm hoping so. We are open to having an auxiliary fridge if necessary, but somehow it seems like more of a pain to deal with than having an extra freezer. The way the Thermador deal is structured is that if you buy a cooktop and ovens (or a range) you get a free dishwasher. If you add a refrigerator, you get free ventilation. Switching out the ovens won't work to get the deal. The total of just under $14K I listed above above includes a Sharp microwave drawer (obviously not part of the package), but I am open to any undercounter built-in micro. No matter how I figure it, if I want a built-in fridge I can't come in much below this price without severely diminishing quality of the other appliances. The free DW and hood total $3800, so it's quite a lot of difference to make up. So your only item of concern with Thermador is with the ovens? Thanks again for your help! Cintijen

dees, that was very interesting info. The best part of your advice to me is to make sure the shipper puts instructions on it. This is great advice when I am the shipper. My company did tell them to call up at the front door when they sent said package. They didn't call as usual. I believe FedEx employees get paid much better to go the extra mile and the company makes more money as they are diversified in several areas I am told. They sure are the happiest young men and when I have told them how greatful I am, one of the two said to not worry we make very good money.They are well trained to speak with customers in a professional manner. My troubles are about to be over since my ex-husband made a good phone call today using his contacts to them and my company told UPS what they have witnessed through me and leveraged a deal for me when I receive any UPS packages or else they threatened to change contracts. It was eye opening to the president I work directly for because his company is known for customer service. There are books written on how they do it. They give UPS a lot of money nationwide. So, I will not be a priviledged customer I will just get what you all get for service. However, when I travel my company sends my luggage ahead to my hotel via USPS. dedtired, did you name this the FedEx Toss? Oh great now the carriers can have bragging rights for who tossed the most expensive piece. What a nut job this jerk is. I love it.You can post that every month and I will look at it. Well, let me tell you mine. My husband is taking some medicine that is sent to him from a pharmacy in New Jersey. First month, it arrived fine. He got a call saying the second month would be here April 20. They had a tracking number but he was driving and didn't write it down, but no problem...we don't have any problems getting mail delivered. The post office here closes at 3 and he has had a hard time getting home before then. He kept going by the post office and no notice in the box, and no medicine. He called the pharmacy. They said it had been delivered and was at the post office. So, he wasn't in any hurry, but the med ran out on the 30th, so he went to the post office....and they didn't have it. He called the pharmacy, and they said it was delivered and gave him the tracking number. He called from the post office, so they checked and said it was in Houston somewhere. They finally figured it was in Fresno, about 40 miles from here. He thought he could just call the post office there....that was an exercise in futility, so we drove over there. We are trying to figure out why it got sent to Fresno....maybe they got the address wrong. Maybe the zip code is close to Liverpool's and that is what caused them to misdirect it. Got to Fresno....went in, and got the package and came out. They said they were getting ready to send it back to New Jersey....they were surprised they still had it. The address was perfect. The zip code for the two towns were not remotely close. Why did they send it to Fresno? And why in heck didn't Fresno send it on to Liverpool, when they obviously could tell it was supposed to go there? The medicine costs $9,000 a month. The insurance paid for most of that, but had it been lost, I can't imagine that they would pay for it again. I mailed about 100 packages of waterlilies every summer for several years. Sent them to almost every state in the union. Never had one single problem with the post office. Not one. I guess those days are long gone.

I agree. It is a great convenient service to have my boxes picked up here at home, since I don't get into town all that often.

I just tried again to schedule a pick-up, looking for a link or something I might have missed and don't find anything. I wish I could get a knowledgeable USPS employee on the phone to walk me through it, but from what I've found in the past, they just read instructions that are the same as I can find on their site.

I might try and see if there is a local PO employee who can walk me through it. I'll post later if I found out what I am overlooking.

It's good to know that it works fine for you Joann.

Well I just called my local PO and they gave me a number for Consumer Affairs for this region. They said I'd have to leave a message, but that 'someone' would call me back.

On a hunch I just tried calling the 1-800-ASK-USPS number and after answering 7 questions with the voice response recorder, (what a waste of time) was told that I needed to speak to an agent and that the office was closed. They then gave me the hours that agents are available.

Ok, so I just call called the # I was given for the Regional Consumer Affairs office and got a fast busy signal on it.
I called my local PO back, and this time they looked the number up and found that the number they gave me was wrong, and now they no longer have a toll free number...sigh. I just called and left a message with Consumer Affairs asking that someone call me back.

And so the saga continues. Nothing should be this frustrating. After 5 phone calls I am now waiting for someone to return my call.

Anyone want to place bets on whether or not they call me?

Any bets on how long it will be before someone calls? I'm betting it will be tomorrow or Friday.

Any bets on whether or not they can actually walk me through the pick-up scheduling process and see just why their system won't let me 'zero out' the quantity box for the number of boxes to be picked up? ie why I can't schedule it for 1 box as opposed to 10 boxes, or for 4 boxes as opposed to 40 boxes.

I just tried this, so I know it works. When you are at the quantity box and your cursor is on the right side of the zero, BACKSPACE, and the zero will disappear. Then you can type in any number you want.

You are my hero! Whenever clearing info in a form box, I had always been going to the left of it and deleting, or highlighting and then deleting. Wow...who knew it was so simple and could only be accomplished that one way? Amazing! I'm thrilled!

I knew if there was a solution to the problem that I could probably find here at the KT a lot faster and with less stress than having someone from the USPS actually help me.

I'll still try and remember to post if/when someone calls me back and 'if' they can and will walk me though it with the simple explanation provided above.

I have sent many a Priority Mail package.
I have never had a problem with printing or with the pick up itself.

Yes, I got a call just a little while ago.

She was not familiar herself with the on-line pick up scheduling process, but was aware there was such a thing. She 'did' understand what I told her about how there was just the one way to 'zero out' the number of packages box. She said she would write up an order and forward it on about the situation. We both agreed that it would be simplest if the boxes were just left empty (blank) until the consumer filled in a quantity.
She was very nice, and came across as a quality USPS employee.
