My Heart is Breaking

my sweet little Dusty is not going to make it. Last night he wasn't eatting much and was softly meowing. Today he ate even less so I called the vet. His system is failing so DH and I have decided to put him down Saturday morning. He is sleeping by my feet at the moment and looks so small and frail.

I will miss my "little one" but I know that when he closes his eyes for the last he will know how much we love him and he will join his brother EKO at Rainbow Bridge.

Oh, SamKaren, that is so sad to hear, but know you are doing the right thing. I so regret not doing so with one of my cats.....saddens me yet that I didn't let her go when she was so ill.

My heart feels for you so much, Cam! The joy and love our furkids bring to us is immeasurable and such a blessing. I know in my heart of hearts that they'll be there to greet us when we pass over ourselves someday. Until then, they'll be having lots of fun while they wait. Another note on PF quality. We are building a new home and have one PF bathroom faucet. Out of the blue, the plumber called DH yesterday and said, "Mike, are you sure this is the faucet you want for this bathroom? PF quality is poor and it does not compare with the quality of the other faucets you have selected . . . so why in the world did you select PF?" DH was pretty surprised as we had not heard any comments on PF quality so we will see what happens. Good luck. I really like the PF you selected and it would work well in my own rustic kitchen. All of you have been so kind - thank you from our family. My heart breaks for each of you that have lost a fur baby. Harley was such a part of all of us. When Gary was dying of pancreatic cancer, Harley would not leave his side - I had to drag him outdoors to take care of his business. He didn't eat for a week - just laid by our bedroom door and kept guard. Harley arrived in our lives on Christmas day, 1998, weighing 6 pounds - he grew to 75 pounds at one point, but as he aged, he dropped to 56 pounds. He was a big ball of fur and love!

thanks everyone.
He just drank a big bowl of water and did use his literbox. I had to help him to it as his legs aren't strong anymore. I put him on my lap and he fell asleep for a half hour. Right now he is sleeping on my chair...his little head is tucked under his paw. I hope he is dreaming of EKO.

((Samkaren)) Hard as it will be tomorrow, just remember you are doing what's best for your cat. We can't possibly know how much pain they are in and they depend on us to make the right choice.

Samkaren, we had to do that a couple of weeks ago with our special girl of 18 years. We tried to keep her home and let it happen naturally and that was a mistake~~she seemed fine some days, others not it was sad, we should have done it earlier we will always regret not doing it in a timely manner.

Thank you for the kind words. This morning dh said ...maybe we can wait until Monday and we can spend a few more days with him. I told him that he was thinking with his heart and it wasn't fair to dusty. He saw my point and realized he just wanted a little more time.

Prayers, caring thoughts, and hugs are coming your way, Karen. Our pets are so precious to us; it's so very hard to lose them, but you and your DH are putting Dusty first. That's a sign of how much you love him.
