Crafts shows New or old?

Craft shows, bazaars, boutiques, are very popular here. They just had the Fall "Big" one with about 300 vendors at the fair grounds. Heavy turn out and yes people were buying. Not much new, lots of Christmas items, name things, jewelry, baskets but nothing new. Last year had lighted blocks, painted screens, but not this year. Did have a large variety of painted/embroidered dish towels. Some baby stuff but very little for older children. Went to another one, again nothing new this year.
Next week, Pride of Dakota, meaning all items are made in ND and certified to certain standards. Also other shows.

Nothing new here either!
Pride of Dakota sounds great!

I haven't seen any craft shows advertised this year.

I think people have gotten so used to copying everyone's ideas that they forgot to come up with own. It doesn't help that Wal-Mart and Oriental trading are selling pre-made kits for crafts that were being passed around the craft message boards as original ideas.

I am just scheduled to do 2 this year. A lot of people don't want to pay what an honest to goodness crafter has to charge. They would rather buy something made in China for a $1.00. I really do it for the fun of making things, I sure don't get paid anything for my time. :o)

I do not mind paying a fair price as I do a bit of crafting also, but when I see items that have been bought, then appears to have some sort of craft paper glued on with a touch of paint that bothers me--such as letters cut from wood, with what appears to be painted, or Santa's, stars etc cut from wood, that also appears to be painted but each one matches perfect with the others, with no variation etc, that bothers me and I will not buy them. I have done Tole painting and each piece does have a slight difference.
Like you agree, buy a cut out of anything of wood, glue stuff on it and call it homemade--. I do realize that it is very difficult to cut alot of these items, but at least paint them without gluing decals on, then paint.

You're right about people not wanting to buy things for what they cost. I did a couple of the craft/gift shop type shows where I had some original ideas and some quality handcrafted products. I couldn't sell my crafts based on the time and energy I put into them. I was able to recoup my costs and a bit more. My crafts sold better than most of the other crafts in the same category that were made by other crafters. I did that show for two years and quit after I moved. I went back to visit the next year and the other crafters had copied my ideas.
